Chapter 6Tris had the boards cut and the cement ready to mix when the pickup rumbled into the yard. He trotted over and took several of the cinder blocks as Andrew lifted them from the bed of the truck. “I got a couple extra, just in case,” Andrew explained and followed Tris across the yard with two more. Tris scrambled into the hole where the utility room used to be and Andrew handed him the pan of cement when he had it ready. They spent the rest of the afternoon cementing the bricks together into a pillar to support the weight of that corner of the house. When the last brick was set in place, Andrew sighed and slipped off his gloves. “Excellent. I was hoping to get this done today.” He glanced at his watch and frowned. “It’s almost six.
