The Beta Is Mine

“Everyone, please line up!” A beta announced, they have finally accepted another lineup of betas for training to be a pack warrior, Andera could not hide how nervous and excited she is, since she was ten, her grandfather always tells her that being a warrior is cool. To be honest, it’s hard for a female beta to be part of the pack warrior, but due to her family background, it becomes easy for the elders to see her potential. However, like the other situation, everyone thinks on the bad side. Her colleague knew about her family background, and not even one of them think that she got her position in her way. ‘Being a warrior is not a position you have to boast to others; a true warrior is the one who saves people not hurt nor bullies them.’ But Andera held those words and did not let anyone affect her thinking, she doesn’t need anyone’s acceptance or approval. For Andera, all she wants is to be the best warrior in the pack like how her grandfather back then. “As I said, everyone who reaches this final selection will join the training from now on. However, because of the new policy, the next in line chief joined the training.” The headmaster of warriors said. A loud whisper began, Even Andera was shocked by the sudden announcement if the next in line Alpha will join them then her goal to be the top warrior will never happen. At some point, she can’t help but feel disappointed but excited at the same time. Someone raised his hand, “Then, isn’t it put more pressure on the beta like us? An Alpha will train with us is a bit too much!” One of the betas complaints, well not only him but everyone can’t accept the new policy announced just right now. Andera looks at the key and her heart almost skipped a beat, she will now be staying at the mansion. ‘Everything is so unreal’ She whispered to herself, this is the long-awaited thing for her. She can’t wait, looking forward to seeing her room, sleeping in a soft bed, eating with all the warriors, and training every day, it’s like heaven for her. Day by day, she prays for it. “Lunchtime will be at noon, let’s all meet in the dining area later.” The master announced once more before he dismissed them. “Yes, master!” They all said in unison. Andera did not wait for anyone to leave first, she could not even know what she will do first, running to the room on the second floor, with her hand trembling, she immediately open the door. But to her surprise, a tall man with olive skin standing next to the window. It’s one of her colleagues, he looked at her emotionless with his emerald eyes. Neither of them wants to start a conversation, making the surrounding more awkward. Five minutes; it’s already five minutes have passed but none of them greet each other. Andera opens her mouth but there are no words seemed to come out, so she decided to close it again. She is really not used to making the first conversation with others. He sighed, I’m sorry, I am not aware that my roommate is a woman, err—you can pick the bed you want,” his voice is too deep yet it was too cold like winter, there is not even a little bit of emotion in every word he said. Oh, well, I’m not aware of the room arrangement too, so uhm—then I will pick the other bed, it’s a shame of you will move your thing again when you already fixed it in the right place.” Andera smiled once again and tried her best to start a conversation but the man just nodded. “Okay,” he shortly replied after a few seconds, and looked outside again without saying more words to her. The smile on Andera’s face that she put her effort to make look friendlier gradually faded, she knew that as she first set foot inside the room, the man doesn’t like her. She thought that the man is like the others who hate her, maybe he thinks she’s a spoiled brat who use her connection to why she’s become part of the warrior pack. Not only that, but she is also a woman while he’s a male. She hundred percent can understand his attitude toward her, even if she can’t there is nothing, she can do about it. All she did is ignore it and just organized her belongings. Fortunately, the man just keeps silent and stays where he is until she finished everything she needs to do. As if she’s alone that even his breath cannot be heard. Andera is thankful for that, at least there is no awkward moment. Now, the only problem is that she wants to take a shower but there is no way she will take one when the man is still in their room. She never imagined that staying in the mansion will ever be the same how as she dreams it. “Are you done?” Suddenly, the man spoke to the point it made her jump. “Hmm… I think, yes?” She answered with no certainty if she heard his question correctly, but she can’t ask him to repeat it. Afraid that the man will think that she’s an i***t. “Then, let’s go.” He said looking at her, waiting. Andera titled her head, “w-where to?” Confused, her heart start to beat like crazy. She can’t think anything of why the man is asking her somewhere. “Where to? Of course, in the dining room for lunch,” he replied and walked toward the door, “I will go first, Master will get angry when someone is late.” Andera doesn’t know if the man was trying to scare her or something, but one thing is sure, it’s effective! She runs toward the bathroom and washes her face, forgetting about the shower, she needs to go before she receives some punishment for being late. Hastily open the door, the man is still there leaning on the wall looking at his phone. “He looks at her, “Hurry, we only have at least ten minutes left.” To her surprise, she saw a little smirk on his lips. However, before she reacts the smirk immediately faded. He stood up straight and turn around, without waiting for her answer he started to walk toward the dining area. Only the sound of their shoe echoed in the hall way. Andera breathe deeply, “Uhm, thank you for waiting for me,” she tried for the second time, hoping he finally opens his door to her. “No need for that, isn’t it normal to wait for your roommate? A courtesy, right? He said, not meaning to sound arrogant but for Andera, it’s like one. “Oh, right?” She can’t help but sound sarcastic but immediately changed the tone of her voice, “I’m not really knowledgeable about something like that, my grandfather…” She stops, they are not close enough for her to run her mouth, “Oops, I’m sorry for being noisy.” She chuckled awkwardly. He looked at her confused, “Why are you being so formal, you can talk to me more casually… Like a roommate or friend… I guess?” He looked away, “And, you are not that noisy, I like when someone is being open like that toward me. I’m not good at making friends, you see.” “Then… Let’s be friends!” Andera did not waste the chance, she also needs friends because they were the same.
