PARAGRAPH1:THE ICE BILLIONAIRE
"Arrrghhh!!!!" The agonized groan tore through the silence like a hurricane, making papers and documents tremble on the large mahogany table. Alexander's temper flared, and he erupted in a storm of fury, sending the files hurtling across the room. His usually impeccably organized workspace now resembled a battlefield of scattered documents.
Silence engulfed the hallway outside the office, where Sterling Industries' employees stood frozen, their daily routines disrupted by the terrifying sound of their boss's frustration. No one dared to speak or approach the lion in his lion den.
"Who is the moron that dropped these files here?!!!" Alexander roared once more, his voice a little louder, trembling with exasperation. His eyes, usually as cold as steel, blazed with anger. The employees exchanged nervous glances among themselves, but not a soul dared to claim responsibility.
"Josh, you're fired!!! Pick up your things and get the hell out of my building," Alexander barked with a finality that left no room for negotiation. In that moment, the fate of Josh, his secretary , was sealed, and a palpable tension hung in the air as the disgraced employee began his walk of shame out of Sterling Industries.
Alexander sunk into the plush velvet couch in the dark corner of his office. He took a deep breath and called for his executive assistant. Bridget seemed to be the only one brave enough to approach him in times like these.
“Bridget, clean up this mess, get me a drink, see that the correct documents are here by noon and get me a secretary that can f*****g do his job!” He gently but firmly says. “Yes sir” she clearly replied.
Bridget has been the most loyal employee Alexander could possibly ask for. Although he never showed any emotion or appreciation towards the kind young woman, he knew deep down that he really would not want to lose Bridget, especially not in a rash manner.
Soon, Bridget returned with a glass cup and a bottle of her boss’s favourite drink. “Here you go sir” she whispered as she poured the drink. Alexander sat there staring at the large shelf across the room. Bridget turned to the leave the office, “shut the door behind you” he said. Alexander was calm.
***In the coffee room of Sterling Industries***
“I honestly don’t think Josh deserved that” Rye, the production manager, said as he gossiped with his colleagues, Amy, the new employee and Susan who had worked with Sterling industries for about three years.
“Does the boss really just send people out like that?” Amy asked. “I can’t believe you’re asking this Amy, I strongly suggest you don’t talk badly about big boss around here. The walls have ears” Susan replied.
“Oh come off it Sue… don’t scare the young lady. Listen Amy, it’s unfair what big boss did this morning, but that’s big boss for you. When he goes crazy, anybody can be a victim. Most times, his secretaries suffer the consequences. I honestly thought Josh would last until Christmas at least” Rye responded as he chuckled at the end. They all laughed and continued the conversation.
“You know what Rye?” Susan continued “I hope one day big boss realizes that he does not determine the fate of his workers and that other people who are under him deserve respect. I mean, what does he really gain by….” Rye clears his throat repeatedly in an attempt to cut Susan off “**clears throat even harder** oh Hello Bridget! I didn’t see you walking in, how’s the day going?”
Bridget calmly walked in pretending to be unaware of what was going on before she arrived.
Bridget entered the coffee room, her presence commanding respect even among her colleagues who had been gossiping about their notorious boss. She wore an air of professionalism, and her sharp eyes missed nothing, though she maintained a polite smile.she never mentioned any word she paused for a while.
"Good morning, everyone," Bridget greeted, her voice calm and collected. She knew better than to let on that she had overheard their conversation about the boss. "Rye, I'm doing well, thank you for asking. How's production coming along today?"
Rye stammered for a moment, caught off guard by Bridget's entrance. "Oh, um, production is running smoothly as always," he replied, adjusting his tie nervously and not knowing what Bridget would do nest.Rye was scared if Bridget would report everything she had to the big boss Alex.
Amy and Susan exchanged uneasy glances. They knew they had crossed a line discussing their boss's actions, especially in the presence of Bridget, the ever-loyal right hand of the enigmatic Alexander Sterling.
Bridget's smile remained unwavering as she poured herself a cup of coffee. "I'm glad to hear that. And, just a reminder, we should all strive to maintain a positive work environment, even when dealing with the boss's... strong personality."
The employees nodded, chastened, and quickly changed the topic of conversation to less sensitive matters, discussing upcoming projects and workplace developments.
**Later in Alexander's Office**
Alexander sat in silence, his thoughts shifting from the events of the morning to the mounting pressures of his empire. He took a sip of his drink, savoring the familiar burn that accompanied the rich taste. Bridget returned to his office, setting a file neatly on his mahogany desk.
"Thank you, Bridget," he said, his voice softened from its earlier fury. "I know I can count on you."
Bridget offered a warm smile, understanding the unspoken gratitude in her boss's words. "You're welcome, sir. I'll ensure that everything is in order for you by noon."
As she left the room, Alexander couldn't help but reflect on the loyal and discreet Bridget. She was a rare gem in his turbulent world, someone who had seen him at his best and worst and had never wavered in her dedication. He wondered how he'd ever manage without her.
