EPISODE1: SILENCE, COLD GOODBYES
Taiwa Town As the sun set on the horizon, the crickets began to chirp, marking their territory as darkness crept in. It was chilly in Taiwa, filled with the usual hustle and bustle of people rushing home after a long, cumbersome day of work. In the midst of the crowd hurrying to catch public transport during the rush hour, a petite, beautiful dark skinned lady stood out. She was 5'2”, trudging towards the bus station, her mind preoccupied. Looking closer, her head was bent and tears cascaded down from her swollen eyes. She was trying to read the text on her screen for the hundredth time. It was from Billy, the man she thought was her forever. "I'm sorry Andy, but we're over! I was lonely and carried away by the moment. We are officially done!" the message read. Damas District With a sunken spirit, she sauntered south toward Damas District, heading to a private lagoon. It belonged to the Donald family—the most influential family in the District. Billy was a scion of that family and the only heir to Donald Enterprises, the most successful company in the entire region. She didn't know exactly what brought her back to this private lagoon, but it was the very foundation of the love they once shared. She chuckled bitterly as a squirrel scurried away, screeching in the dusk from the very spot where she had given him her innocence. He had never officially asked her to be his girlfriend, but she had played along, believing they were in love. Was it a one-way street from the start? she wondered. Had she been dumped by the man she favored with everything she held dear? Or was this a nightmare she needed to wake up from? These questions made her heart throb rapidly. She had always feared love for this very reason—a pain so immense it would take ages to heal. She stepped towards the edge of the lagoon and began throwing stones into the water. Sitting on the layered turf, her eyes darted around as flashbacks of her and Billy kept replaying in her mind like a cruel movie. Hell’s Lounge Pub, Damas District While Andrea sat in the silence of the lagoon, the atmosphere at Hell’s Lounge was the complete opposite. It was one of the most elite pubs in Damas, a place only the "Dandies" and the ultra-wealthy could afford. Top business moguls, investors, and celebrities made it their usual hangout. Under the dim red and blue glow of the golden chandeliers, a dark figure sat in a private section reserved for billionaires. He was taking shots quietly, one after another. Unlike other nights when he was surrounded by friends, tonight Billy felt he needed total privacy to drink himself into a stupor. Six empty bottles of hard liquor sat on his table. He signaled for a seventh. The bartender, knowing Billy was a famous billionaire and a regular, hesitated. He had seen Billy’s menacing looks before, but the man was clearly spiraling. "No, sir! I can't serve you anymore. You’re wasted," the bartender insisted, trying to be responsible. "Is it my money or is it yours?" Billy snapped, his voice cold despite the alcohol. Just then, a sleek car rolled up to the tavern. Joe, Billy’s best friend, dashed inside. He had received a call from an acquaintance saying Billy was causing mayhem. "Get out of my face and get me another bottle!" Billy was now on his feet, his tall figure swaying dangerously as he insulted the bartender. Joe watched him, worried. This was not the refined man he had grown up with like a brother. I hope this isn't about Andrea again, Joe thought, though he knew he’d have to wait for Billy to be sober to ask. "Billy, what is all this? Why are you wasting yourself like this?" Joe asked, stopping a few feet away as the overwhelming stench of booze hit him. "I thought... I gave you... a day off," Billy managed to say between hiccups, his words slurred. "You’ve had enough, Billy. Come on, let me drive you home." Joe tipped the bartender, apologized for the scene, and helped Billy toward the exit. As they walked out, all eyes were on them. Billy, usually the epitome of refinement and a "dark aura" guy that people feared and respected, was now making a mockery of his own status. Taiwa Town Taiwa was a stark contrast to Damas District. While Damas was quiet, its atmosphere reserved for the influential, Taiwa reeked of open sewage. In Damas, street lights never ceased to glow, turning night into broad daylight; in Taiwa, the roads were dilapidated and the nights were dark. Yet, despite the gloom, small businesses stayed open, hoping to earn a few pennies. The streets were a chaos of noise—jobless youths drinking and playing drafts, and drunken men brawling over fifty dollars. As Andrea ambled through Taiwa, she smiled bitterly. The cold, beautiful landscapes of Damas were behind her now. She halted at a local inn, intending to drink for the first time in her life. She needed the pain to dissipate. "Billy is my ex," she whispered, the words stinging her heart. Looking back at the boundary of the wealthy district, she vowed never to set foot there again. She had barely entered the inn when a voice cut through the noise. "Hey, bestie!" It was Janice. "I’m just heading home from med school—what are you doing at a bar?" Before Janice could see her swollen, tear-streaked face, she pulled Andrea into an embrace. The dam broke, and Andrea began to sob. Janice and Andrea were childhood friends, a bond forged in kindergarten and strengthened through high school. Growing up in the same neighborhood, they were inseparable—less like friends and more like sisters. When Andrea and Billy first met at a concert in the Damas District, Janice knew a spark would fly; they seemed perfectly compatible. Billy had even helped Janice secure a scholarship at the prestigious Star Medical School for her nursing degree. Knowing all this, the news that Billy had broken up with Andrea felt impossible to swallow. The same Billy who had gazed at Andrea while singing, confessing his love for her, had now done the unthinkable. If Andrea hadn’t shown her the text, Janice would have thought she was imagining things. But there it was: a breakup over the phone, devoid of explanation. Janice’s heart tightened, and her anger flared. "That bastard! I’m going to find him tomorrow! He needs a proper lashing!" "No, bestie, you won’t talk to him," Andrea pleaded. She didn't want Janice to cause trouble on her account. "Don't ruffle any feathers. Remember, he’s the reason your scholarship is secure." Andrea couldn't bear the thought of jeopardizing Janice’s future just because her own heart was breaking. Reluctantly, Janice agreed. Tears welled in her eyes as she pulled Andrea into a hug. "Then what are you doing out here? You aren't going to start drinking and wasting away over a man. He’s probably at a club right now, having the time of his life." Acting the part of the protective big sister, Janice wiped her own tears and held Andrea close. "Come on. I’m taking you home." They walked in silence, Andrea losing all track of time until she realized it was nearly midnight. When they arrived, Miss Lynn was waiting outside. She paced the corridor with a lantern in one hand and her phone in the other, worried to the core. A quiet, refined woman, Miss Lynn had endured years of struggle to raise her girls. Now that Steph was gone, she did everything in her power to protect the only child she had left. Her blood pressure was rising, her heart drumming against her ribs. Only hours ago, the landlord had insulted her over the unpaid mortgage. She had promised to pay the balance to secure full ownership of the house, but the money wasn't there. The longer she delayed, the more the penalties grew, threatening to swallow the only home they had left. ***AUTHOR'S NOTE*** Hi everyone!
