I bolted out of bed the second I heard a baby crying. I scanned the room, but it was empty, so I ran to the door. The crying was getting louder now. It sounded like it was right outside. When I swung the door open, a blinding light exploded everywhere. I was dazzled and had to squeeze my eyes shut, shielding them with my hands. After a few minutes, I slowly peeked out. The crying had stopped. The brightness was gone, replaced by total darkness. I couldn't see a thing. I tried to take a step forward but stumbled instead. Ouch! My body ached as I hit the hard floor. Where was I? What was happening? "Ah!" I felt a sharp pang, but it didn't last long. A heavy wave of sleepiness started pulling at me, but I fought it. I moaned, trying to call for help, but the words wouldn't come. "Ah..."
