Elena Point of View:
The growl of the wolf echoed through the trees, rattling my bones. I could feel the vibration beneath my feet, the danger closing in on us from every angle. Zane’s body stiffened beside me, his muscles coiled, ready for whatever was coming. But something about the air was different now. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, the air heavy with anticipation.
“Zane...” My voice barely whispered, but I felt his sharp gaze snap to me.
“Stay close,” he ordered, his voice low, but it had that Alpha edge. He didn’t have to tell me twice. I stepped in closer, my breath shallow and my body bracing for what was coming. Zane’s presence was like a shield around me, but even with him standing next to me, I felt the pull of danger, the weight of something awful about to unfold.
Then, from the trees, they emerged.
Five of them…men, wolves, their eyes glowing with malice. These were not your average werewolves. I could feel the darkness around them, as if they were sent to tear me apart.
My heart raced, but this time I didn't back down. I couldn't. Not anymore. I wasn't just running away from my bond with Zane; I wasn't running away from the curse anymore either. This fight, this war, had come to me.
The first one lunged at me, teeth bared and claws out.
"Stay back!" Zane's roar broke the tension. But I didn't stay behind.
I didn't want to stay behind.
My fingers felt powerful. I could sense it. The energy coursing through my veins, raw and out of control. I didn't know how to handle it yet. But I was getting better. Fast.
I raised my hands and focused on the wolf closest to me. Before I could think, a bolt of light shot out of my hands and hit the wolf in the chest. It staggered back, howling in pain, and smoke rose from the place where the blast had hit.
Then Zane moved quickly, his movements a blur as he tore into another one of Darius's men. But my heart was racing. I could feel the magic stronger than ever before. And it wasn't just me. It was like the bond between Zane and me was making it stronger.
"Elena!" Zane's voice broke through my thoughts, but I didn't have much time to respond. I was too slow this time; another wolf was on me.
His claws scraped my arm, and pain shot up my side. I gasped and stumbled back, but Zane was there before I could fall. He grabbed the wolf by the throat and slammed it to the ground with a loud roar.
"Stay down, Elena!" Zane growled, and blood dripped from his fangs.
But his eyes, full of that fierce protectiveness, never left mine.
I wasn't sure if it was the curse or just my feelings, but something inside me broke. I wasn't just a weak person anymore. The power that had been sleeping inside me for a long time came to life, like a wave that couldn't be stopped. I took a deep breath and focused on the magic that was still inside me, swirling around me.
I raised my hand again, but this time it wasn't just a flash of light; it was a storm.
The wind howled as I let it go, making the wolves lose their balance and swirling around us. The air was full of energy that crackled with power. The other wolves ran around, as if they were trying to get away, but Zane wouldn't let them.
"They came for you," Zane said in a dark, threatening voice. "And they aren't going anywhere."
Before I could do anything, another shape appeared behind him. It was a bigger, darker shadow that seemed to give off power. When I saw the figure step out of the shadows, my heart skipped a beat. His eyes were glowing red. I knew right away who it was.
“Darius,” Zane said under his breath, and a low growl came from him. He had seen what I had seen. Darius, the alpha who had cursed me and started this whole messed-up game.
Darius's voice was smooth but full of poison when he said, "You're mine,
Elena." He didn't get any closer, but it was clear that he was a threat. He still had more to say to me.
I looked at Zane, but he was already walking toward Darius. His body was tense, and his wolf was barely held back. Darius's eyes met mine, and I felt the ground beneath me get colder. My body instinctively pulled back.
But now things are different. The bond between Zane and me was stronger than it had ever been. I could feel his heart racing and almost hear the wolf inside him roar. He was close, but we were still far apart. I had to take action. I had to stop Darius.
I yelled, "You can't have me!" My voice was shaky but strong. It felt like a promise to myself, like a declaration. He wasn't mine anymore.
Darius laughed darkly, and the sound made my skin crawl. "You think you have a choice, Elena?" You are mine already. His voice was colder and darker now.
My hands tightened, and the magic inside me flared up in response to what he said. I could sense it. He was trying to hurt me again. To make me do what they want. But I wouldn't let him. Not anymore.
I raised my hands again, this time putting all of my energy into them. The wind howled, and the magic swirled around me like a storm of light and dark. Zane turned around, and his eyes shone with something like pride. He yelled, "Elena, no!" in a desperate voice. "Don't…
"
But I couldn't stop. The power surged, and a bright flash of light came out of my hands. It hit Darius right in the face, sending him flying back into the trees. The force of it made the air crackle with energy.
Zane was already moving, running toward Darius, who was having trouble getting his balance back. But the air felt different. A wave of energy. The ground shook, and I knew it wasn't just the magic I had let loose.
There was more. There is something deeper, darker, and hidden below the surface.
Darius stood up, his face twisted with anger. He hissed, "You think this is over?" "You think you've won?"
But it wasn't what Darius said that caught my attention. It was the faintest shadow that rose up behind him.
A tall, scary figure came out of the dark. But it wasn't a wolf. It was much worse than that.
I gasped and my heart skipped a beat when I saw the creature's glowing eyes, which were full of an ancient power.
"The storm... it just started."
