first encounter
I was naive and innocent for an 8-year-old. There is no limit or tiredness when playing with my siblings. We are in the backyard. I grew up in the care of my Grandma. She was strict and traditional, and she believed in spirits and ghosts.
Granny warned us not to stay in the backyard when the sun sets or in the middle of the day. According to her, when the sun sets they are more likely to appear and notice us as to why we are still outside our homes, and at midday, they are actively hiding behind the trees.
and yes, of all spirits, the most well-known to us is Miss White, from our backyard to the nearest neighborhood. We don't know any story about her in our generation, nor a tale. A shaman said that she had been there for a long time.
I saw her for the first time while playing with the soil in our backyard. I really had a lot of fun that time, so I never noticed my siblings had left me for dinner. We usually have early dinners from about 5:30 to 6 pm.
I still remember that they were just by my side moments ago and then I had to stop doing things due to silence. I casually looked around my surroundings, until it caught my eye just a glimpse of a lady standing in front of a little tree as white as her nightgown. She seemed to be praying.
What horrified me is that she is imitating the statue of the Virgin Mary. Then she disappeared quickly in the blink of an eye.
I never knew the concepts of spirits or ghosts at that time as they focused me on my day-to-day study and leisure as a child should do.
I think she really wants to be friends with me. Kidding, or are they also curious about the new people in their territory? One sunny day at noon, we played hide and seek inside the house.
I hid under the table. I saw half of their bodies running around. Then, suddenly, what came next was a long nightgown in white chasing them. In a blink, it was gone. I knew it was her.
Another time, Due to my father's sickness, they consulted an Albularyo or a shaman. He accidentally noticed the big tree behind our home and the lady who lives there.
It was not the small tree that she stood on the first time I saw her, it was the big mango tree behind. I remember one day a whole colony of bees fell and they scattered around.
The shaman confirmed that sometimes she goes inside our houses, including the neighbors.
