Once a Bully, Now my Lover
Jelanie's POV It was my first day in Oakbrooke High. I was anxious and nervous as I walked down the hallway in search of my classroom, being late on your first day was not something anyone would want. "Ouch!" I bumped into a large figure hovering over me. "I'm Sorry I..." The words hung in my throat as soon as I raised my head to meet the eyes of the figure Blake MacLeod, my worst nightmare. He stared at me with the most stern and disgusted look his face could form. "You silly Chit" he thundered and I impulsively took a step backwards. "So it's true? You got that scholarship" I bent my head downwards holding tightly on the books on my chest. I knew he schooled here, but didn't think he would be the first person I'll meet on my first day. This was a sign that my day will not be good. He gave me an up to down assessment then scoffed "You're not going to last long here, so get the most out of today" And he left, Just like that. My shoulders dropped, and I released the breath I didn't realize I was holding. I turned to stare at his back as he walked away till his whole self became completely out of sight. Then I continued my search. Blake had always made life a living hell for both me and my parents. My mom worked as a cook in their mansion, while my dad was Blake's personal driver He played all sorts of mean pranks on them, like one time when his mother, Mrs Carwen got my mom arrested because she added shrimp into her food. Mrs Carwen is allergic to shrimp and almost lost her life due to that incident. My mom pleaded and begged, she constantly swore that she didn't do it on purpose but it turned on deaf ears She spent a month in jail till it was finally discovered that Blake was behind all of it. I wondered how a person would put his own mother's life at stake just to see someone else's suffer. He wasn't punished for that and the issue died down. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. He played more expensive pranks on my dad and bullied me whenever he got the chance. He made sure to always remind me that I could go to school, eat, and sleep because of his parents. "Hello there. Are you lost?" I heard a voice from behind and I turned almost immediately. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you" my cheeks flushed in embarrassment. "You're new?" I nodded and she smiled. "It's okay, I can show you to your class" I was in doubt, the people here are anything but nice, especially to people like me. I couldn't help but think that she was up to no good. My hesitancy was evident in my eyes. "Hey, You don't have to be shy. What class are you trying to locate?" Since I needed help, I decided to just go with her. What's the worst that could happen anyway? A lot. "There, literature class" She pointed towards a door. I nodded and gave a slight nod. "Thanks for your help" a half smile appeared on my face. She displayed her thirty two dentals and gestured for me to go on which I did. I got in and all eyes were on me, no. Not in a good way, they all had disgusted looks on their faces. "Hi. How may I help you?" The teacher asked. I couldn't maintain eye contact with anyone so with my head bent downwards, I pushed my glasses and began to stutter "I..my..I.." "It's okay Miss, take a deep breath and relax your nerves" The teacher encouraged and I nodded. "My name is Jelanie, I am a new student" I managed to say and he nodded. "Alright Jelanie. You're welcome, Take a sit" I nodded immediately and began to scan the classroom for an empty seat. I found one but the girl next to it didn't look like she welcomed me "Find somewhere else to sit, it's already bad enough that the whole place stinks because you came in. I wouldn't want to get infected by an unknown disease" She said and the whole class burst into wild laughter. My cheeks turned red. "And not just that, did you see her shoes? They look like they've seen better days. Ha-ha, we only allow people with branded items to sit close to us" Another girl added, another round of laughter erupted while they nodded in agreement. I tried to hide my legs, only that it was impossible to do so. "Don't try to hide it girl, we all can see it" The girl continued with an eye roll "That's enough you all. This is no way to treat a new student. We should welcome her and make her feel safe..." The teacher was saying but got interrupted by the girl "Oh please Mr Leon. Why should we welcome her when she clearly doesn't belong here? I mean, I don't get why the school management lets low lives amongst us. Our parents pay a good amount of money for us to be here and she gets to get the same treatment for free? It just doesn't make sense tbh" Lord knows how hard I tried to not let the tears that were threatening to fall out succeed "Ms Layla you don't say that" The teacher who I now knew to be Mr Leon tried to get her to shut up, but apparently she was having too much fun to listen "Oh I can Mr Leon. I can say whatever I want to" She countered and he sighed. "One more word from you Ms Layla and I'll send you to the detention room for misconduct" That was enough to get her to shut up, but wasn't enough to let me sit next to her I scanned the room and the next available one was next to...Blake? He shouldn't be here. A smirk played on the corner of his lips as soon as our eyes met "Isn't this... Isn't... isn't..." "Urgh! Why is she so slow?" Layla complained while rolling her eyes. It wasn't my fault. Blake had made sure to trample on my self esteem right from childhood and she didn't give me a welcoming attitude either "Allow her to speak Layla" Mr Leon said. "She's in the wrong class. This girl, I know her. Her mother is our cook while her father is my driver. She is very dumb and stupid. You know...poor people and how slow their brains tend to be. She's just exactly like her father" I swallowed hard and a tear dropped from my eyes "Aww! Is she shedding tears cause someone told the truth about her?" "Make sure that drop of tear don't touch the ground. These tiles are very expensive, but of course you can't relate" I turned around immediately and ran out of the class. I knew that girl was up to no good. She definitely did this to humiliate me. I bumped into someone for the second time this morning When I raised my head, I almost melted to the ground. Tyler Rutherford. My long term crush. He always came to the little burger shop where I worked after school Unlike Blake, he didn't say any harsh words to me, actually, he didn't say any word to me. He just walked away. I kept crying and ran to a secluded area where no one would see me The rest of the day went by in a flash. I was very grateful for that. When the final bell rang, I was very pleased and happy to leave this nightmare called a school On my way out someone called out to me "Jelanie!" I turned almost immediately. "Here" He said handing a paper to me "What is that?" I asked and he shrugged. "An invitation" that wasn't answer enough. "Invitation? To where? From who?" "I was told not to tell" Before I could ask further questions, he sprinted away. What the hell did that mean?
