CHAPTER 1: THE NERD BECOMES CEO
HER NEW BOSS is a hot piece of s**t. She could only remain quiet and whispered that inside her mind.
Kaia crumpled the hard copy of the newest paper that she had submitted for review to the one and only Mr. Nikko Roberts, the new CEO of the television network where she had been working for five years now. The paper was filled with red ink and comments; she wished she hadn’t tried reading for once.
“Monotonous tone, add some interesting inflection to the words you’re using.”
“Is this even newsworthy?”
“Bland adjective, a blank sheet would be more interesting than reading this piece of shit.”
YOU ARE THE PIECE OF s**t!
From the day that he stepped inside this building, he had already established his stance in Kaia’s life—he is the devil in human flesh!
This guy, with his tall height and strong physique, strode inside their halls and announced that he was the new CEO and would assume office. And he dared to send back her newest project to her desk with those nasty comments—she and her team were so close to completing it!
The f**k?
She remembers it so well. How Nikko Roberts appeared from nowhere with the intention of ruining her life—she thinks so.
“What is happening?” Kaia whispered to one of their colleagues, Isa, who just shrugged her shoulders.
“He said he is the new CEO. I guess Mr. Mitchel has already left us for money,” Isa mumbled.
So, the company acquisition pushed through after all. And Kaia’s life has changed forever. Her dream of becoming the head of the showbiz news department was now in shambles.
The worst thing? The new CEO is someone she knew from the past.
Kaia backed away from the crowd, her steps getting heavier, and dialed a number as she positioned her phone near her ear.
“YOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE WHAT JUST HAPPENED HERE IN OUR OFFICE—” she began to say as soon as her older brother Dylan answered the call.
“Oh, dear sister, I know.” She can hear the smirk on her brother’s face. “How did Ken look this time, by the way? You hadn’t seen each other since high school.”
“Wait, wait—what do you mean? You know about this?”
Her crazy brother laughed on the other line. “Not exactly. He told me about this company he wanted to acquire, but didn’t mention what exactly it was until it was already all over the news.”
What the actual f**k. Really?
“Is he doing this to make fun of me? Or destroy my life?”
Just the thought of him making my work more difficult than it already is, I just wanna collapse!!! she whispered to herself.
Her brother’s light tone changed. “Why would he do that? The dude is making a living for himself.”
Kaia felt even more repulsed. “Dylan! Your best friend is a billionaire! Why would he suddenly barge into my workplace, claiming he is the new CEO?! For all I know, he might terminate me. Because he can. What would I do with my life if I didn’t have work?”
“C’mon, sis, you’re getting way ahead of yourself. Just because he was your ex, you’re gonna think he hates you for leaving him years ago.”
Kaia closed her eyes. And just like that, the image of a young man appeared in her mind. His innocent eyes stared at her with pure intention. And when he smiled at her, she was already on her knees.
She hated the way that she wanted him to kiss her, but he just couldn’t and wouldn’t.
The younger version of her—not this Kaia. BIG NO.
“Why did you break up with him that time, by the way? You didn’t even let me know.”
“Shut up, Dylan.”
Kaia couldn’t believe that the young man years ago would become the Nikko Roberts that he is today. Because this man—right across her office—is intimidating, cold, and ill-mannered. He doesn’t wear his thick rimmed glasses like before either.
Her ex was kind and gentle—and worshipped everything she wrote.
Kaia shrugged her head in an attempt to shake away the thoughts about him. Gone were the days when she meant the world to him, and she to his. Right now, Nikko is the CEO that she needs to please, or else she has to say goodbye to her passion.
“You guys have always loved words together.” Those were the last words that Kaia heard from her brother before she pressed the end call.
Is she playing cupid for his friend?
For Pete’s sake, I already have a boyfriend.
Kaia slumped her shoulders onto her office table as she stared at the crumpled paper in the trash bin. All her endless nights of working gone to waste. Her words were reduced to mere sentences without worth. At least that was what Nikko’s comments meant.
Her phone lit up, and a notification from her boyfriend popped up on the screen.
“I miss you, babe. I want you right now.”
Kaia heaved a deep sigh, glanced at her door to check if it was sealed shut.
Her phone rang this time. As soon as she answered the call, her boyfriend appeared on the screen. He had a hungry look on his face and was already naked.
Kaia heaved a deep breath. She wanted to say no to her boyfriend because she was still so stressed at work, but she didn’t want to disappoint him.
“Craig… I still have—”
She couldn’t say it out loud. And so, when she heard him instruct her to remove her top, she listened.
Kaia placed her phone on the corner and stared at Craig on her phone screen, her boyfriend for 2 months now… he was looking at her with hungry eyes that could devour her if only they were together right now. But Craig has not initiated another date since last month, and she is kind of wondering why.
Kaia closed her eyes as her corporate uniform fell onto the floor. Now half-naked, she shivered as the cold air seeped onto her skin.
Her boyfriend on the other side of the call was already writhing in pleasure.
Kaia was about to caress her breasts when the door of her office suddenly burst open.
Eyes wide open, Kaia froze in her spot with her n*****s perked up right in front of the company’s new CEO.
“You seem to be having fun during work hours.” Nikko’s eyes pierced deep into hers, and she couldn’t tear away her gaze from him.
She was naked in front of him, her boobs displayed all for him to see.
The call with her boyfriend had already ended, and Kaia was left there alone with her boss…
Nikko walked towards her without any second thought and locked the door behind him.
‘What’s gonna happen now?’ Kaia whispered to herself as her heart hammered inside her chest.
