She fell dad

1674 Words
The study had barely become quiet again when Lily’s terrified thoughts suddenly echoed through the silence. Mommy, she wants to push me down. She is going to say that I fell on my own. Because I cannot walk, she is going to use that against me. Please, somebody help me. Mr. Grayson reacted before the thought had even fully ended. Fear struck him so suddenly and violently that his heart seemed to stop for a moment. He rushed out of the study immediately, crossing the hallway in only a few long strides before pushing the living room door open. And then he saw everything clearly. He saw Isabelle’s hand against Lily. He saw Lily’s small body dangerously close to the edge of the couch. He saw the hard floor beneath her. For one brief second, Mr. Grayson stood completely frozen, shocked by what his own eyes were showing him. Then something cold and heavy settled deep inside his chest. Without wasting another moment, he crossed the room quickly and carefully lifted Lily from the floor. He held her securely against him, almost protectively, as though he was afraid she would get hurt again if he loosened his grip. Only after making sure Lily was safe did he finally turn to look at Isabelle. By then, Isabelle’s expression had already changed completely. She looked distressed. “Dad, she fell,” Isabelle said quickly. “I tried to catch her, but I was too late.” “She fell.” Mr. Grayson’s voice was very quiet. Isabelle nodded immediately. “Yes,” she said quickly. “I only looked away for a second and then” “The child,” Mr. Grayson interrupted slowly, “who has been sitting peacefully in the same spot since the moment we arrived…” He stared directly at her. “The same child who did not fall while the entire family was standing here…” His voice became colder. “Suddenly fell the exact moment we stepped out of the room.” The tension in the room immediately became unbearable. Mr. Grayson continued looking at her steadily. “Isabelle,” he said quietly, “do you honestly think I am stupid?” Isabelle opened her mouth immediately, but no words came out. At that moment, the rest of the family appeared at the doorway behind him. All of them stood there silently, staring at the scene in front of them. Lily slowly lifted her head from her grandfather’s shoulder and looked directly at him with the most serious expression anyone had ever seen on a seven-year-old child. “Grandpa,” she said softly, “I did not fall. She pushed me.” She paused briefly before asking in a small quiet voice, “You believe me, right?” Mr. Grayson immediately looked down at her. And just like that, every trace of coldness disappeared from his expression. His eyes softened completely as he pulled her a little closer against his chest. “Of course I believe you, little one,” he said gently. “Grandpa believes you.” The thought that followed came quietly through Lily’s mind. For the first time in two lifetimes, somebody believed me. That is my grandpa. Mr. Grayson heard every word clearly. His smile remained on his face, but something painful shifted deep inside his eyes. It was a quiet ache that he carefully kept hidden from everyone else. Then he slowly turned back toward Isabelle. “You heard her,” he said calmly. “She said that you pushed her.” Isabelle straightened immediately. “Dad, I would never do something like that—” “Are you telling me that I am lying too?” His voice dropped lower. “Because I saw you with my own eyes before you even realized I was standing there.” The color drained completely from Isabelle’s face. For several seconds, she simply stared at him in shock. Then suddenly her knees gave out beneath her. She dropped to the floor and grabbed tightly onto his leg with both hands. “Dad, I am sorry,” she cried desperately. “I do not know what came over me. It was the devil. I swear it was the devil. I was not thinking clearly.” “The devil,” Mr. Grayson said coldly, “has absolutely nothing to do with this.” He calmly stepped backward and removed her hands from his leg. “Go to the spare room,” he said firmly. “Kneel there and do not get up until I tell you to.” Isabelle slowly looked up at him with wide tear-filled eyes. Then she turned desperately toward Lucas. Lucas immediately looked away. She turned toward Ethan. Ethan stared silently at the wall instead. Finally, she looked toward Mrs. Grayson. “Get up,” Mrs. Grayson said quietly. Her voice was calm, but there was a firmness beneath it that made the entire room still. “And go where you were told.” For one brief second, something dark flickered across Isabelle’s face. Then it disappeared immediately. Without another word, she slowly stood up, lowered her head, and walked out of the room. A moment later, the door shut softly behind her. The entire room seemed to breathe again. Then Lily’s thoughts suddenly filled the silence once more like sunlight breaking through heavy clouds. Wow. Grandpa is very sensible. Unlike Mommy. Mommy would never believe me immediately. In my past life she trusted people too easily and got used by bad people for years that’s why she also got used by Daniel, but grandpa and grandma are so smart how did they give birth to such a dumbass. Lucas quickly pressed his fist against his mouth. His shoulders shook once as he struggled not to laugh. Mara slowly turned toward her daughter with an expression that looked deeply offended. Meanwhile Lily sat peacefully in her grandfather’s arms with the face of a completely innocent child, staring quietly toward the ceiling as though she had done absolutely nothing wrong. Mrs. Grayson hurried forward almost immediately and crouched down in front of Lily with excitement shining all over her face. “Sweetheart,” she asked warmly, “what do you like? Tell Grandma.” Lily’s face lit up instantly with happiness. “Grandma, I like toys and sweets,” she answered immediately without even hesitating. Mrs. Grayson burst into warm genuine laughter, and it was easily the happiest sound anyone had heard in the house all day. “Then Grandma will buy you all the toys and sweets you want.” Lily’s thoughts immediately exploded with joy. Wow. Grandpa and Grandma are so nice. A small happy giggle echoed inside her thoughts. I do not want to go back to that man called Daniel. Then another thought followed casually. Well, at least my real dad is the biggest boss in the whole city. That means I will still get lots of sweets from him. And money too. Ethan slowly looked toward Mara. Mara looked toward Sofia. Sofia slowly looked back toward Ethan. But nobody said a single word. Then Lily’s attention shifted again. She looked up at Mr. Grayson with sudden seriousness in her eyes. Her small brows furrowed slightly as though she was thinking carefully about something important. This time her thoughts came much slower. How do I tell Grandpa that he should stop drinking the tea Aunty Isabelle makes for him every morning? She has been poisoning it little by little. That is what will eventually kill him and Grandma. They both drink the tea every day. The poison is given in such small amounts that nobody notices anything at first. And when the damage finally becomes serious, everybody will think it happened naturally. The doctors will call it kidney failure. But it will not really be kidney failure. My grandpa and grandma are good people. I do not want them to die. The room fell completely silent again. Mr. Grayson stood motionless with Lily in his arms. His face remained unreadable. Then Lily finally looked directly at him. “Grandpa and Grandma,” she said softly. Both of them immediately gave her their full attention. Lily fidgeted slightly before speaking again. “Grandpa, can you please stop drinking the tea Aunty Isabelle makes for you every morning?” Mr. Grayson looked at her carefully. “Why, little one?” Lily lowered her eyes slightly before answering. “It is just not good for your health,” she said quietly. “And I do not think it is good for Grandma either.” Lucas frowned immediately. He looked carefully at Lily. “Lily,” he said slowly, “how do you know that Isabelle makes tea for Grandpa every morning? You only arrived here today.” The question landed heavily in the room. Lily froze completely. Then her thoughts suddenly became frantic. Oh no. Oh no. How am I supposed to explain this? How do I tell them that I was reborn and already know what happened before and what will happen next without sounding like a strange little girl making things up? Sofia’s eyes widened immediately. Mara pressed her hand tightly against her mouth. Both of them understood exactly why Lily was panicking. They had also been reborn. But they only remembered things they had personally experienced before. Lily was different. Lily somehow knew things that had not happened yet. Things none of them had ever seen before. And that was something far more frightening. The entire room held its breath. Then Mr. Grayson gently adjusted Lily in his arms and looked at her with calm steady eyes filled with warmth. There was not even the slightest trace of suspicion in his expression. “You do not need to worry about that,” he said softly. “Grandpa will listen to you.” Lily stared at him silently. Her thoughts became small, emotional, and overwhelmingly relieved. Thank you, Grandpa. Slowly she rested her head against his chest. Mr. Grayson held her a little tighter.
