HARPER The sounds of two car boots being slammed shut simultaneously were enough to signal that we were ready to leave. Still, Mom felt the need to announce it. “Harper and Kingsley, you’ll ride with Jonathan,” she pointed at the highlander on her left, “while I’ll ride with my husband here,” she gestured to the Mercedes on her right, “Let’s go!” Kingsley threw her a salute and got into the backseat, while I struggled to pick my buzzing phone with a handful of plushies. It was Hae-in, and I never let her call go to voicemail. “Harper Veronica Wright! We’re almost half an hour behind schedule, so get into that car now!” Mom scolded me just as I pressed my phone to my ear.
