“f**k!” I dragged the books from the table to the floor, we have been at this for days now. “This is hopeless?”
“Hunter!” Father's raging, sulking, baggy eyes glare at me. All I get from the other boys stands nothing, Mason hurling books on ‘Black Crystal’ onto the table, Jake reading numerous things at once, and for the first time, Joshua is helping. What a horrible way to spend time together for the first time in a while.
“She’s dying!” my hand collided through the table, and my eyes filled with tears.
“She has days left.” Josh finally comes out into the world, but wait what? “The powder of sleep paralyzes the brain and…”
“Wait, let me see!!” I rushed over to stop him from talking by taking the book out of his hands, my eyes skimmed through the words, and I stopped, I couldn’t, I couldn’t read anymore. Jake comes over and takes the book away from me, the most hideous, black magic I have ever seen.
“The powder of sleep paralyzes the brain and body, causing the object to fall into a coma, where their soul will become weak, and eventually decrease in five days.” …
“And?” Mason urges Jake to read more, my father on the other hand didn’t look surprised at all, but disappointed.
“After two days of motionless touch… After the fourth day of death…” Jake skims through the book where the page is. “Antidote!” His eyes and smile grew. I walked back over and grabbed the book back off him.
“Black Crystal, it has the ingredient and the method here as well. Father?” …
“Father?” I showed him the book, and my face grew, as much as it had ever done before couple of days, Violetta had been down. Father's faint expression tells me something is wrong.
“Father?”
“I know, I know this dark magic, this magic is called Dormīre. Black Crystals are rare, Hunter, there is no way you will find one in the next two days. I’m sorry.” I could feel the book ripping in my hands.
“Father!”
“What!” Father finally snaps at Josh as he keeps trying to get his attention. His hair at the back of his neck stands, and his claws break free. My eyes target where his emotions are set off, and that’s it.
“You’re supposed to be dead!” I glare.
“You dare come here.” Mason brings Josh to his side.
“I know, I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t important.” …
“Do you want to start a war?” Father raises his guard and walks closer towards the shadows, keeping me and my family behind him. A rock silenced the tension in the room, as it landed on the table in front of us.
“I am here for Violetta. I have always done it for Violetta.” The most unwanted person, the person that I didn’t want to see in the whole world. He came out of the shadows and moved the rock closer to us. “A black crystal.” He speaks.
“Why would you help us?” Mason demands.
“I have never belonged with my pack.” He whimpers. It's pathetic.
“Wouldn’t your father find out about this, James?” I turned to mine; how could he ask about this? He needs to get rid of him now.
“He has never been my father, you know that.” …
...
“Hey, James,” Jake mutters. “Long time no hunt.”
“So, you’re one of us now.” He laughs, “That’s Karma for you.” James replies with a snigger, leaving me to snap. How do they know each other, that doesn’t matter. Unless they both did this to her. “Seriously, you are lucky I haven’t slashed your throat out yet!”
“What’s wrong with him?” Jake whispers again.
“He thinks I hurt Violetta.”
“I swear to Lucifer if you talk one more time.”
“Did you?” Jake still disobeys me. But did he? Did he hurt her?
“Did I?” He pulls a serious face. I pull him into me, my claws ready to scar that dark skin of his.
“Hunter!” Mason grabs my hand, “He helped.”
“And we do not know for certain if it will work.” I pull my arm away from his.
“It will work. It was my father... It was Storm who ordered the curse on her.” He squeezes his eyes as if he is the one in pain. “Alpha Adrian. We need to be prepared for a war. When the other pack finds out.”
“Yes James,” What the hell is going on?
“Father, what has been the matter with you in the past couple of days, you are supposed to be an alpha.” My voice rises. And my father Snaps.
“Yes, son. I am an alpha. But I was told by my King that I must protect this princess at all costs. I will do anything to protect his daughter, anything.”
“The King?” James interferes as my father clenches his teeth.
“Yes,” He mutters. “The King will come for her in a few weeks, maybe months, but he will come. And I do not want to give our King another dead child, do you all understand?” The silence was killing my father. “Do you understand!”
“Yes, alpha!”
“Good. James come with me, Jake you too. Mason, take Hunter and your brother to calm down, and go to the library, if this plan does not work, then we look for a plan, B then a plan C. Do I make myself clear?” … “Boys.”
“Yes, father.”
“Then what?” I mumble.
“Then prepare the others for a war.” …
