Chapter 1: The New Student
As I walked through the halls of my high school, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. It was the first day of senior year, and I was already feeling the pressure of college applications, prom, and graduation looming over me.
I turned a corner and collided with a tall, dark-haired boy. His piercing blue eyes locked onto mine, and I felt a jolt of electricity run through my body.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," he said, flashing a charming smile.
I smiled back, feeling a little shy. "It's okay, I wasn't watching where I was going."
The boy held out his hand. "I'm Max. I just transferred here from California."
I took his hand, feeling a spark of attraction. "I'm Emily. Welcome to our school."
As we stood there, chatting, I couldn't help but notice the way Max's eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled. I felt a flutter in my chest, and I knew I was in trouble.
Just then, my boyfriend, Jake, appeared at my side. "Hey, Emily. Who's this?" he asked, his eyes narrowing slightly as he looked at Max.
I felt a pang of guilt, knowing that I had been flirting with Max. "This is Max, the new student," I said, trying to sound casual.
Jake's eyes lingered on Max for a moment before he turned back to me. "So, are you ready for lunch?" he asked.
I nodded, feeling a little trapped. As we walked away, I couldn't help but sneak a glance back at Max. He was watching me, a small smile playing on his lips.
I felt a shiver run down my spine, and I knew that I was in for a wild ride.
