Falling from Grace

As the night continued on, I stared at my mate the first hour, the second hour I stared at the ceiling, and then at the clock for the third hour. As the night continued on, I started to feel restless, as a well as Perse. She kept insisting that something was wrong, so I got up. I put on some shorts, slippers, my robe and carefully made my way downstairs. On the way down the restless feeling kept growing and started to pick up the pace. I looked through the first floor of the packhouse and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, and as I made my way to the kitchen that’s where I saw her. Eliza was eating a sandwich with steam coming off of her, she had fresh wounds on her back, and she looked like hell.

ELIZA!!! I ran over to her but the steam that was coming off her body made me stand back, then I noticed her clothes, and what use to look like armor. WHAT HAPPENED?! When she did not answer, I mind linked the Guards, Miranda, and Richard. Leon came running down in his boxers because he felt my anxiety through the mate bond. Lauren pulled me to the side and told me to stay back. “I’m not going to hurt her, Lornninal.” I watched Eliza say Laurens real name and, in the process, everyone covered their ears in pain. They waved off that they’re fine as their fast healing was in their benefit. Eliza, please just tell us what’s going on?

Lauren: You know our names are not made for other beings, why would you put them through that, Eliza?

Eliza: That is not name and you know it. Say my name and watch how Perse does not even flinch when it is being said.

Lauren looked back at me and asked everyone to cover their hears as well as possible. Elizephrim… She watched me as I stood there with wide eyes and being the naïve person I am, I asked a stupid question. What does this mean?...

Eliza: Typical. All that teaching and you still don’t pay attention to what is happening in front of you.

Lauren: What Happened? I will not ask a second time, sister.

Eliza looked up at us and turned around to show her back to us. I had to make a deal, a deal to save this pack and Dark Crest. A deal with my mate…

Lauren: NO! You did not do it, how could you, we could have found another way?!

Eliza: You’re an i***t, haha. Leon, Perse, what I did for you is a gift. Do not throw it away, okay? Do your best not to doubt each other, it only weakens the bond…

Please, just tell us. We won’t be upset; we were so worried when you just left the night of the event. “It’s true, Perse went crazy trying to find you.” Alex said. We all just want to know if you’re going to be, okay?...

(Eliza’s POV)

I did not leave the party of my own free will that night. I was making my rounds making sure our guest had everything they needed. Then Alpha Samuel caused a scene and during that time I was approached by a man, he whispered my true name. In that moment I was frozen with fear, it could have been any one of them. Instead, he took my hand, and I felt the sparks, the mate pull. Persephone you must know that my mate is one out of the nine children who plotted to toss the lost child from the heavens. I saw Perse take a step back from me when Leon stopped her, “you need to hear this.”

I cleared my throat and kept speaking… As punishment was being served to the nine children, they all put the blame on my mate, Xalmos. When he tried to defend himself the sun god casted him out of the heavens and into the underworld where he became the demon king. Xalmos has minions everywhere, doing his bidding, spying, and making deals. Eventually one of his minions found me and started following me and reported back to Xalmos. This is when he found out what I was up to, and when he saw you, he put the pieces together, and came to the party to make a deal. Lauren started shaking her head as tears began to fall.

Lauren, this was my choice, he did not force me, he gave me a deal and I took it. Persephone slowly walked up to me and looked at me apologetically. “If you knew he was your mate, why didn’t you reject him?” I smiled at her, to be honest we have known for quite sometime that we were each other’s mates. I rejected his advances towards me and chose the heavens, but I did not reject him all those years ago, and he used that to his advantage.

Lauren: What was the deal?

The deal was he would protect Persephone, and the packs she is in. Xalmos will protect you Perse, he knew if he did not offer this, I would not take his deal. If something should ever happen to you or the packs, the deal is voided. I saw everyone become a little uncomfortable mentioning the Demon King will protect them so now would be a good time to tell them. Xalmos backed out when the time came Perse. “What do you mean?” The moment he looked into the lost child’s eyes he wept and could not bring himself to harm the child. “How do you know this?” I looked at Leon who was skeptical, I stood up from my seat. I fell from the heavens, falling from grace to protect you all!

As soon as I said this a black portal opened up and Xalmos walked out, “Eliza it is time.” When we made eye contact, I could see his heart ache watching me in this state. Xalmos may I introduce you Persephone her mate Leon and her guards. Xalmos eyes lit up as he saw Perse, “by the nine realms, how have you grown! I see you received the Sun Gods gift.”  

Persephone: I did, and there’s a warmth coming from it that I can’t explain…

Xalmos: Be careful of the Sun Gods gifts, for they are not what they always appear to be little one. I come bearing a gift from the Moon Goddess, it has instructions for you to follow, so pay attention little one.

Leon: What does that mean?

Xalmos: It means do not trust him.

I looked at him in shock, when were you going to tell me this to warn them and Lauren! “It was not the right time, darling.” When did you get this gift from the moon goddess?! “Hmm, I cannot remember, darling.” I scoffed at his remark in which he smiled playfully in return. He extends his hands out to Persephone and she graciously accepts the gift. “Little one, that is what you used to call me, right?” I saw Perses eyes lit up, “You’re my brother?!” My heart broke for the both of them as this was not the family reunion anyone had in mind. “I was little one, Eliza it’s time to go.” Xalmos held out his hand for me and I took it making him smile a little. I looked back at all the wonderful friends I have made and said goodbye before entering his portal back to his realm. My body suddenly felt heavy, and I collapsed into his arms. Xalmos picked me up and carried me to his room where he took off my shredded clothing, and he started to tell me.

“It felt like an eternity ago when the moon goddess came to me asking for a favor. I greedily responded after everything I had been through, and she took my hands in hers. She said she would give me a mate, someone to love and cherish if I stayed true to my word. I agreed to a favor for a favor and stayed true to my word. The Moon Goddess knew I had nothing to do with her Lost Child and took pity on the Demon King, haha. I also took a vow of celibacy in her honor for my future mate.”

I could not help but smile at his story while he took care of me and laid me on the bed. Do you remember the first time we saw each other? “I do, so naïve and beautiful, you still are darling.” As I laid in his bed the need to have his body close to mine was becoming unbearable, lay with me Xalmos. I can no longer bear to be apart from you, please. Xalmos undressed himself and climbed into bed holding me while my body adjusted to its new home.
