The Lost Princess of The Heavens

Wake up child, I said get up unless you want to die! I heard a strange voice say as I felt a stinging sensation on my left cheek, as I opened my eyes. I see a hand coming down to meet my cheek for a second time. I catch the woman’s wrist before she makes contact, w-who are you? I manage to say as she helps me to my feet, she quickly turns, and I hear her begin chanting in some language. As she continues chanting the wall begins to crumble followed by an explosion from the other side of the door in the room. I feel my body jerk forward, “stop daydreaming and RUN!” Her shouting brings me back to reality and I begin to run. We could not have been on the wrong for very long, my body feels so heavy… Keep running, child! I need to breathe; I cannot breathe… I fall on knees and the woman comes back for me, “GET UP!” she grunts as she begins to carry my weight as well as her own.  Leave me, you don’t owe me anything, I mumbled. “I can’t leave you; I had a vision about you, and my coven sent me on this mission to rescue you, I will not fail them!” Okay, I will run. As I said that the girl slowed down and let me go, gave me some water, and said “Move it.” You can do this, human! What was that?! I crouched and put my hands on both sides of my head. “What was what, mortal?!” Th-there was a voice in my head! “It does not matter; we need to RUN!” I am your wolf, keep running, and if you can't run anymore, I will run for the both of us. What does that even mean, I thought to myself… I know everything is very confusing right now, just do as Elizabeth tells you. I trust her, and so should you. My legs feel heavy, I can’t keep up with her… Suddenly my legs feel lighter, and I hear laughter come out of the girl next to me. “YES! We might make it out of here after all!” As we continue running through the night, I see the woman begin to struggle to keep up. I slow my pace to match hers, I grab her and have her lean on me as I carry the both of us. “Once I feel we covered enough ground we can stop and camp out for a few hours and continue on in the morning.” What is my name? She looks at me puzzled and then a sad expression consumes her face. “I don’t know, have you asked your wolf?” No, her voice comes and goes, and there is a splitting headache that is quick to follow. “The headaches will pass in time, its normal when someone gains their wolf.” What is my name, wolf? My name is not wolf, it’s Persephone. I am sorry, I do not know your name, and there are no memories of your life. We can share my name, you just have to figure out the last name, deal? I smiled and said deal. “Deal?” Yes, I am going to share my wolfs name, I said proudly. “Once we make it over that ridge we can make camp, and maybe you can tell me your name?” I looked at her, deal. We both smiled and kept running until we made it to the ridge. I lowered her down against a tree and sat next to her.  “What’s your name, girl?” Oh, shared name, and it’s Persephone. I need to think of a last name, that was the deal we made. So, tell me Elizabeth, why does my wolf trust you so much? She was caught off guard and started to stammer, it’s okay Elizabeth… I just want some answers, I have no memory until I woke up…  I heard a twig snap and by natural instinct I started sniffing the air, listening to everything around me. It’s just a deer, false alarm and sat back down. “Like I said before I had a vision, and I told my coven, which sent me on a rescue mission. I must say it is uncommon for a wolf and their human counterpart to share a name. What I sense is raw power from you now that you two have made contact. You’re an Alpha, and a powerful one, it could be why they were holding you…” I look at her in confusion and break the silence. I do not think we were followed. She cuts in “I would hope not, before I busted us out, we both drank a potion that makes our scent go in the opposite direction of where we’re running too.” How long will it last? I look at her with amusement, “A week or two, long enough for scent to disappear when they search this area.” I smile at her; we think you’re very clever. Thanks Persephone, and that’s for both of you she says as she winks at me. It’s been a few hours since we first made camp, and the sun was coming over the mountains. Elizabeth started stretching, “are you rea--?” I look at her and her expression displayed an awe look, what’s wrong? I c****d my head at her, and then she blurted it out. “Your hair and eyes, Persephone. You’re so beautiful… you look nothing like you did last night…” What do you mean? “I mean yesterday you had brown hair and brown eyes, today your hair is red, and your eyes are blue, human counter parts do not change when they gain their wolf let alone have blue eyes.” What does this mean? “It means you’re more powerful than I realize and your eye color, well let’s just say you are royalty…” WHAT?! “Let’s keep going and I’ll explain this on they way, okay?” Sure… We begin our journey back to Elizabeth’s coven, and on the way, she was trying her best to explain what my eyes meant in the supernatural world. “Okay, in simplest terms you’re a descendant of the moon goddess herself. Only her direct bloodline have blue eyes, your hair must have been a repressed gene that was triggered when you Persephone woke up.” I wish I could give you answers, Persephone, I am just as confused as you are right now. It’s okay Perse, we will learn everything together. “Earth to Persephone!” Umm, yeah? I look around and we’re surrounded by stones. “They’re for teleporting closer to the coven instead of walking, hold my hand.” As I reach out for her hand, I felt a rush of electricity and we were in a different part of the forest. “We’re almost home, let’s go!” I see her smile as she quickens her pace and soon, she is greeted by older women welcoming her back from her mission. “You are not welcome here wolf, leave this land!” I look at the old woman and back to Elizabeth who was just as shocked. “WHY?! I demand to know Dorothy!” Eliza you know why we can’t have a wolf in our coven, especially one of her power! We are not safe with her, you completed your mission, and now she must complete hers, and find her place in our world!” The woman quickly turned and disappeared in smoke, and I stared at the ground. Get it together, Persephone. I mumbled under my breath as my eyes began to fill with tears. Go with them Elizabeth, I will find my place in this world, and when I do, I promise to write you. I see her eyes filling with tears as she gave me bag of food, medicine, and the essentials to make it on my own.  "Good luck, Persephone..." I nodded my head and started walking away, I couldn't look back, this was just part of her mission and she completed it. We shared a bond after what we went through, and for that I am eternally grateful. I make it to the top of a hill and look out to the forest.  I agree, Persephone. Let us look toward the future, there is so much more out there in the world, and we will find our place. I know it.
