Chapter 5 Disguise with Him

1319 Words
While Sophie was wondering why he was here, her eyes met Julian’s. The man’s eyes were long and narrow, extraordinarily captivating. A hint of confusion flashed in Sophie’s eyes. The look Julian gave her was filled with unfamiliarity, as if he had never met her before. Then why had Julian married her corpse? The doubts in Sophie’s heart grew heavier. If this man really didn’t know her, why had he pretended to love her so deeply in her previous life? Sophie felt she had to find out the truth. If she didn’t, she would feel extremely uneasy. Just then, Matthew’s voice sounded, “Lord Sterling, after my daughter came to Sterling Manor, my phone suddenly sounded an alarm indicating that she died here!” Augustus calmly retorted, “Lord Everly, are you mistaken?” If Lydia had died at Sterling Manor, even handing over Sophie wouldn’t quell Matthew’s anger. Therefore, this matter had to be concealed. Matthew said coldly, “I installed a chip on Lydia. The chip is connected to my phone. As soon as Lydia is in danger, my phone receives an alert. Just now, my phone sounded the alert, meaning she has already died!” “I’ve already checked. Today, she only came to Sterling Manor. It must have been your family that harmed her!” The Everly family had always been at the forefront of chip technology in Freedomland. Hearing Matthew’s words, Augustus’s urge to kill Sophie grew even stronger. Yet at this moment, he could only suppress his anger and speak calmly, “I don’t know where Lydia went. If you don’t believe me, feel free to search this entire villa.” Sophie said she had destroyed Lydia’s body. Seeing how confident she was, there likely weren’t any traces left. Matthew immediately ordered his people to search. Augustus then turned his gaze to the young man who had come with Matthew, a smile appearing on his face. Augustus had once been fortunate enough to see Julian, and he knew of his rank as “Brigadier.” “Brigadier Hawke, what brings you here?” In Freedomland, everyone knew that no one dared offend Brigadier Hawke. His marksmanship was precise, his other abilities top-notch, and his family background was impeccable. The Hawke family was one of the oldest and most powerful families in Freedomland, far beyond what the Sterling family could compare to. Julian raised his eyes, cast a glance at Augustus, then let his gaze settle briefly on Sophie’s face before moving away. In a calm tone, he said, “Just passing by.” Sophie looked at Julian, stunned. So this man was actually a Brigadier! Ethan was also seeing Julian for the first time, and a flash of shock passed through his eyes, similar to Sophie’s reaction. Sophie looked at Julian and blinked softly, “Sir, have we met before?” Julian’s expression remained cool, his tone flat. “No.” Sophie lowered her head, hiding the confusion in her eyes. Augustus, fearing that Sophie’s questioning might anger Julian, hurriedly apologized, “Sir, this is our daughter, whom we recently brought back after she wandered outside for years. She’s rather impulsive, so if she has offended you, please forgive her.” Julian merely responded with a light acknowledgment. Augustus immediately breathed a sigh of relief. Just then, the people Matthew had sent to search returned. They had found no trace of Lydia’s body. They had also reviewed the surveillance footage, which showed that Lydia left Sterling Manor shortly after arriving. Hearing this, Matthew cast a cold glance at Augustus. “In that case, we’ll take our leave.” Lord Sterling also let out a sigh of relief. He still didn’t know how Sophie had managed to alter the surveillance so quietly and remain undetected. Julian also rose to leave. Augustus still had no idea why Julian had come here today. As Augustus watched them depart, he turned and spoke icily to Sophie, “This matter ends here. From now on, you are forbidden to mention it again. If you dare disclose anything, get out of the Sterling family!” Ethan, too, had been greatly startled. Fortunately, he had experienced enough turmoil to remain calm and not reveal any flaws; otherwise, Matthew might have seen through them. Ethan turned to Sophie. “In the future, be more careful about what you do.” Sophie ignored them. As soon as she saw Julian leaving, she stood up and hurried out. In a secluded spot, Sophie blocked Julian’s path and asked seriously, “Sir, have we really never met before?” Julian’s cold gaze swept across Sophie’s face. “I’ve already said we haven’t. Stop bothering me.” Julian stepped around Sophie and left Sterling Manor. Sophie watched his departing figure, her heart filled with confusion. Could it be that he truly didn’t recognize her now? At the moment, that was the only explanation. However, Sophie did not believe that Julian was merely “passing by” Sterling Manor. He must have had another purpose in coming here. As Sophie turned around, she ran into Ethan. Ethan’s eyes were icy. “A person like you dares to pester Brigadier Hawke? It seems you don’t know what it means to die.” Sophie remained calm. “If you don’t want to die, get lost. Don’t appear in front of me and pollute my sight.” With that, she didn’t spare Ethan another glance. Stepping around him, she headed upstairs and returned to her room. ***** Late at night, Sophie sat at her computer, tapping on the keyboard. Suddenly, a gun pressed against her head, its cold touch sending a chill through her. Sophie looked up and saw Julian’s face. He looked quite disheveled, with blood on his shoulder and chest, dripping onto the floor and forming a puddle. Sophie hadn’t expected to see Julian again under such circumstances. Even with the gun barrel against her head, Sophie remained calm and spoke evenly, “Sir, why are you appearing at this hour? Have you finally remembered meeting me before?” Julian’s expression was cold, his tone devoid of emotion, “I’ve never met you. This time, I need your help.” Sophie nodded, “Alright.” Clearly, Julian was being pursued. His pursuers were no ordinary enemies to force him into such a situation. Sophie shouldn’t involve herself, but in the previous life, Julian had saved her and prevented her corpse from being desecrated. Now it was time for her to repay his kindness. Sophie asked, “What should we do?” Julian replied flatly, “Clean up the blood on the floor, then we’ll get into bed together.” Sophie immediately understood. She went under the bed, took out a bottle of solution, and poured it over the blood on the floor. The red stain vanished instantly, and the bloody odor disappeared along with it. However, Julian’s body still had blood on it. Sophie took out a hemostatic pill and handed it to Julian. After he swallowed it, she quickly bandaged his wounds, sprayed a scent-blocking solution on him, and pulled him onto the bed. Julian watched her every move in silence. After taking the pill, his bleeding stopped, and the smell of blood was covered. Sophie began taking off her clothes and also reached to remove Julian’s clothing. Julian’s face darkened at once. “You—” This woman dared to strip him. Sophie covered Julian’s mouth and whispered, “We need to mind the details. It has to look convincing.” Julian’s shirt was removed, revealing his firm chest. His body pressed against Sophie’s. He fixed her with a sharp gaze, staring intensely at her. At that moment, Sophie heard faint footsteps outside the door, and her heart began to race. She wrapped her arms around Julian’s neck and gently pulled his head down. In an instant, Julian’s lips met Sophie’s, their breaths mingling together...
