Chapter 6 A Struggle for Advantage

1630 Words
Julian’s pupils quivered slightly, and an incredulous expression crossed his face. This woman dared to be so bold. Seeing Julian’s shocked expression, Sophie merely pursed her lips slightly. In her previous life, he had even kissed her corpse. Why act shy now? Meanwhile, outside the window, two men pressed against the wall and peered inside, seeing a man and a woman locked in a passionate kiss. One of them whispered, “Julian doesn’t like women, and there’s no scent of blood inside. That man can’t be him.” The other nodded, “He took two bullets; he couldn’t have gone far. Let’s keep searching.” Before long, the two disappeared into the night. Hearing them leave, Sophie fixed her gaze on Julian and asked calmly, “Sir, what are you doing barging into my room in the middle of the night?” Also, was he really being chased so desperately that he ended up in this sorry state? Julian’s lips were almost brushing Sophie’s face. Feeling very uncomfortable, he quickly removed Sophie’s hands from around his neck, rolled off her, and sat up. “I entered your room by mistake. Please excuse me.” Sophie glanced at Julian’s wounds. He had been shot in the shoulder and chest. Although she had just bandaged them, the bullets remained inside. Sophie also stood up and looked at Julian, saying, “The bullets are still in your body. It’ll be difficult for an ordinary person to remove them. Done improperly, it could kill you instantly. I can help you.” Julian cast a quick look at Sophie. Her eyes were clear, her tone sincere. He found something oddly familiar about her. He searched his memories but was certain he had never met this woman, nor understood why she kept asking if they knew each other. In the end, Julian lay down, indicating that Sophie should remove the bullets. Sophie took out a medical kit, selected her tools, disinfected them, then administered anesthetic. With swift and skillful movements, she extracted the two bullets lodged inside Julian’s body. Julian watched Sophie slice through his flesh as if slicing food. Before long, she had the bullets out, making his eyes narrow slightly. Julian knew those two bullets were wedged against bone, yet Sophie had removed them so easily. Her medical skill was absolutely top-tier. After removing the bullets, Sophie stopped the bleeding. Meeting his gaze, she smiled gently and asked, “What’s wrong? Have you remembered where you’ve seen me before?” The anesthetic hadn’t fully worn off, leaving Julian’s upper body weak. He answered flatly, “I’ve never met you. You’ve asked that many times now.” Sophie smiled softly, “You saved my life. If you ever need anything, I will repay you with my own life.” She thought for a moment, then added, “I’d like your contact information. That way, if you’re ever being chased again, at least you can find me.” Sophie wanted to understand why he had saved her in the previous life and why he had even married her corpse. First, she’d get his contact details. Then, after more interaction, she was confident she’d soon uncover the truth. Julian frowned slightly. This woman’s attempt at getting close to him was really too obvious. Nevertheless, Sophie still managed to get Julian’s contact information. After the anesthetic wore off, Julian left behind a check for fifty million and then departed. Sophie tidied up the room, shut off her computer, and prepared to rest. The next day, after Sophie woke up, washed, and opened the door— Lina and several maids stood outside. Lina glared fiercely at Sophie and said coldly, “Miss Sophie, this room was originally prepared as a bridal chamber for Miss Isabelle. You’re occupying her room now, so you must leave immediately.” Sophie glanced at Lina, who stood in front. It was the same in her previous life. These maids always stood up for the fake daughter Isabelle, demanding Sophie change rooms. Back then, Sophie had compromised. But now, she had no intention of giving in. This room was the best one on the second floor, and she was very comfortable staying here. Sophie said coolly, “I don’t intend to leave. You’re blocking my way. Get out.” Lina’s expression changed, and she said angrily, “You grew up outside like a stray. What right do you have to come back and occupy Miss Isabelle’s room? You’re covered in filth and have contaminated this space. You’re the one who should leave at once!” With that, Lina led a group of maids rushing forward, trying to push Sophie aside. Sophie grabbed a maid without hesitation and flung her away. “Bang—” Two maids were flung away. Next, Sophie kicked another maid who rushed forward from behind. “As long as I’m here, this room is mine. Anyone who dares to take it from me must have a death wish!” “Bang!” All the maids were sent flying, landing heavily on the ground. The intense pain made it impossible for them to stand. They looked at Sophie in horror. The genuine daughter of the Sterling family who had just returned was actually so formidable, able to take down several of them combined? Ethan happened to pass by and saw a group of maids lying at the door of Sophie’s room. He approached with a grim face and demanded, “Sophie, what are you causing trouble for so early in the morning?” Lina seized the chance and answered loudly, “Sir, this room was originally prepared as a bridal chamber for Miss Isabelle. But as soon as Miss Sophie returned, she occupied the room.” “We asked Miss Sophie to change rooms, but she refused and instead kicked us.” Hearing this, Ethan frowned, “Sophie, you actually took over Isabelle’s room? Move out immediately!” Sophie responded calmly, “I don’t plan to move. Ethan, you’d better not anger me.” Ethan was infuriated by Sophie’s attitude. “Everything in this house should belong to Isabelle. You shouldn’t be competing with her. You came back and immediately took her room—that’s too much.” Then Ethan turned and ordered the servants, “Go in and move all Sophie’s things out. This room belongs to Isabelle, and no one is allowed to snatch it.” A group of maids stood up, preparing to enter Sophie’s room. At that moment, a maid dressed in black rushed out and stood in front of the others. “This is Miss Sophie’s room. You cannot enter!” Sophie looked at the black-clad maid in front of her, momentarily stunned. She hadn’t expected this maid to stand up and speak for her. Lina cast a cold glance and then turned to Ethan, “General Sterling, shall we force our way in?” Ethan glanced at the black-clad maid, his tone cold, “Get lost. Who allowed you to stand there?” The black-clad maid stood firmly in front of Sophie. Although her body trembled, she held her ground, meeting Ethan’s threatening gaze. “General Sterling, Miss Sophie is your sister. You can’t bully her.” Ethan hadn’t expected a maid to dare speak to him like this. A trace of anger flashed in his eyes. He quickly drew a dagger and thrust it fiercely toward the maid’s chest! The black-clad maid closed her eyes in terror. Sophie’s expression changed. She swiftly took a few steps forward and reached out, grabbing Ethan’s dagger. The black-clad maid smelled blood but felt no pain. She opened her eyes abruptly, only to see Sophie standing in front of her. Sophie’s palm had been cut open by the dagger, flesh torn and blood instantly flowing out. Droplets of blood trickled down her palm, staining the floor red. This scene was shocking to behold. The black-clad maid’s lips trembled slightly, “Miss Sophie...” Lina frowned at the sight, “General Sterling, this maid dared to stop us. We must get rid of her! Miss Isabelle once said she liked this room very much. If she returns and sees that Sophie has taken it, she’ll be heartbroken.” Ethan, now calm again, still paid no attention to Sophie’s bloody hand. His gaze was icy, “Move out immediately, or I’ll kill you.” With that, without waiting for Sophie to speak, Ethan suddenly kicked her. Ethan’s skills were exceptional, his strength far surpassing Sophie’s. With that forceful kick, Sophie had no power to resist. “Bang—” Sophie was knocked to the ground. A wave of pain surged through her body, her face turning pale, as if her bones might shatter. Ethan then kicked away the black-clad maid, glaring coldly at Sophie, “I warned you to get lost, but you wouldn’t listen. Don’t blame me.” Sophie pressed her lips together. Despite the intense pain, she forced herself to stand up. She took a pill from her pocket, swallowed it quickly, and gave Ethan a cold glare, “I’m telling you to get lost.” Seeing Sophie still able to stand, Ethan sneered, “Do you want another kick? You’re no match for me. You’d better step aside.” Sophie felt a rising warmth within her body. She curled her lips slightly and shifted her step, appearing in front of Ethan in an instant. Ethan hadn’t even seen how Sophie moved before she was right before him. Startled, he immediately drew a handgun and pulled the trigger. However, before Ethan could fire, Sophie reached out her right hand. In that split second, she snatched the gun away, reversed it, and aimed it at his chest. “Tell me, if I pull the trigger now, will you die?”
