Chapter 1: The Night She Was Hidden
Nineteen years ago...
The storm howled like a beast dying in pains over Hollowfang Valley, wind lashing trees and rain drenching the earth in a furious torrent. In a remote cottage cloaked by runes and illusion, Melissa clutched her daughter tighter to her chest, eyes locked on the door.
It was coming.
"They’ve found us," she whispered.
Three-year-old Ayla peeked up with sleepy beautiful eyes, she knew nothing and was unaware of the storm inside her mother’s heart. She giggled, nuzzling into Melissa’s chest.
"Hide-n-seek, Mama?" Ayla asked, she was always excited playing Hide and seek with her mother.
Melissa tried to smile even if it was unreal. “Yes, baby. The longest game you’ll ever play.”
There was no time to explain because even if she did, Ayla was too young to understand. No time to weep, she needed to be strong for Ayla.
She rushed to the center of the room where a glowing circle of runes pulsed on the stone floor. Ayla squirmed in her arms.
She noticed the tension around her mother, she was smart enough to know that it wasn't just the Hide and seek game they used to play together “Mom! I want to stay with you” she began to cry.
“I know,” Melissa said softly, trying to calm her down. “And I want that more than anything. But they’ll hurt you, sweetheart. They’ll tear you apart just to silence your blood.”
Melissa paused for a minute “Because of what you are. They are scared of what you’ll become.”
Moonborn.
Ayla, My child. You are born of a cursed lineage. Not just wolfblood—but something more. Something ancient.
Melissa began to think back on how she had made a terrible choice that is now putting Ayla's life in danger. She’d fallen in love with a man who wasn’t just a rogue—he was descended from the Shadowblood line, a f*******n legacy hunted by the Council.
She gave birth in secret.
When the Council discovered Ayla’s existence, Melissa faked their deaths and fled Hollowfang, using spells learned from the old Grimwulves to cloak Ayla’s aura and seal her wolf.
“She must never awaken,” the Elder Mage had warned. “Not until her source calls her.”
A loud bang shattered the front door.
They were caught. The Moonborn energy was so intense.
“Melissa!” a voice roared from outside the door.
Melissa kissed Ayla’s forehead and whispered the chant.
> “By blood, I seal. By love, I hide.
Let her wolf sleep. Let fate decide.”
Ayla’s eyes rolled back. A faint silver glow radiated from her skin—then vanished.
She slumped into Melissa’s arms, unconscious.
The rune circle flared, revealing a hidden stone tunnel beneath the floor. Melissa lowered her in and tucked a moonstone locket under the child’s shirt.
“Forgive me, Ayla. One day, you’ll know everything.”
Tears streamed down her face.
The door exploded open.
Five wolves stormed in, led by a man in dark robes—Alpha Rydan Blackthorn, Kian’s father, and a High Council enforcer.
Melissa stood tall, fire glowing in her palms.
“Relax, Melissa. I know about your daughter. You are free to hide here with her for a price.” Rydan said with a smirk.
“What's the price?” Melissa became curious.
“You would keep her for my son, Kian.” Rydan’s face straightened as he said the words with so much weight.

Back to the Present…
Hallowfang High school was a school for many. Some felt lucky, some felt deserving, and others felt what they chose to feel.
It was Ayla’s third day at Hollowfang High. She was still learning to walk through the halls without drawing too much attention from other students. But even in her silence, people still stared at her.
Not because she was too pretty or loud—but because her presence was strange, and quite distinctive from everyone else's. There was something about her aura…it was as if it didn’t belong to a full wolf. As if it was laced with something else.
She’d been standing by her locker, head down, flipping through her schedule, when the scent hit her like a thunderclap.
It was like a low crackle of danger and dark dominance.
Kian Blackthorn, The Alpha's heir.
He was the most feared senior in Hallowfang High. His personality and status commanded a lot. He had already killed a lot during a rogue battle last spring—and he hadn’t flinched even till now.
He walked down the hallway like he owned it with so much charisma.
And just maybe he did.
Everything about him screamed lethal; the dark hair that kissed his brow, the sharp jaw, the way his eyes never softened even when he was greeted by many.
And just there, the moment their eyes met…
Her wolf surged up with a jolt so strong, Ayla slammed into the locker behind her, gasping.
Mate.
The word pounded in her chest. Her mother told her about Kian but she never told her about him being her mate.
Her vision immediately blurred as she tried figuring everything all at once. Her body flushed with heat and power she didn’t understand.
Kian felt it too. It was obvious he did.
He paused and looked straight at her. Ayla couldn't maintain her stance, as his gaze thickened. His eyes were as deep as midnight, but narrowed too.
All Ayla wanted was for the ground to swallow her up that very moment.
And in that breathless moment, his scent flared—as if he was fighting something within.
Then—
He walked away.
Just like that.
Ayla stood there helpless with the passerby all looking at her, trying to figure out what just happened.
Ayla couldn’t breathe right for the rest of the day. Her wolf kept growling beneath her skin, pushing against the seal she barely understood, clawing for him. She just couldn't explain it. Looking at the way everyone referenced Kian, he should be the last man she should ever want.
But the bond had sparked, even though she finds it odd.
She just knew it and she couldn't deny it.
But something wasn't right, she could sense danger lurking in the shadows.
Not from Kian.
But from someone she wasn't seeing.
Who could it be?
