Chapter 14 May 28 With the ringing of the three o’clock bell, I’ve officially made it through my freshman year. I close my dented locker for the last time, leaving a stack of random papers and loose pens and pencils for its next owner. I guess it won’t truly be “official” until I get my report card in a few weeks, but I feel better about my grades. I did have help from the window, of course, but mostly the improvement in my grades was due to me putting in the work to study, despite juggling everything else going on in my life. Stuff is piling up—good and bad. On the bad side, there are a couple of biggies. My parents’ weeklong separation is too new for me to have fully internalized yet, but it’s a constant weight on me.
