Prologue: I Like You Even Though It's Unbearable
"Meet me in autumn. Once more, please show up and meet me in autumn," Sharon whispered through the cold and thin air.
She clasped her hands, locking bet fingers on both. It has become a habit she has developed whenever she was occupied. Although her palms were already warm and cozy, wrapped around her thick winter gloves to keep it from the freezing cold while the snow falls deliberately, she still tried to get it warmer.
It felt like she has seen the view before, and the only difference was it was now winter, and the ones that fall are flakes of snow instead of red and dry leaves. Nostalgic, something to look over again and again.
She could overhear some great stories told by passersby her front, but couldn't actually comprehend and learn the context. She could see people smiling and admiring each other's enthusiasm because of the first snow, especially some couples who look very in love. There were also kids who were catching snowflakes and letting it melt in their palms with excited expressions.
It was such a great scenery, yet she found herself unable to put up a genuine smile. She instead continued to murmur more words intended for the only one person she couldn't meet at the moment, but she actually and badly want to see face to face.
"In the future, I hope we bump into each other again. Was it too selfish to wish that you'd smile at me just how you usually do?"
"I miss your smile, your eyes, your lips, your scrunching nose. I miss everything about you. If only I could bring back the time, I would choose to be with you instead, I would endure everything, as long as I am with you..."
A heavy breathe. For the uncountable time that day, she heaved a sigh. She miss her. So much. Another sigh.
"I should have told you," she giggled bitterly. But what can she currently do? Nothing. It was a bad decision, terrible even, but she still chose to do it. It was hear fault, and she is the only one to blame.
She wanted her in a better place, and if that means letting her own happiness go, she would. And she did.
"I like you, I like you. And I still like you even though it's unbearable. No, I still love you" she whispered. "I'm wishing on your love, I always do. And I always will....."
"Hey, Sharon..."
"Kat-" no, she smiled bitterly. There was no way that it would be Kat. And she has confirmed it when she turned around to face the voice's owner, "Hi, Keith. Why were you here? Have you been standing there for long?"
"Just for a few minutes," he smiled softly. And she could feel the awkward tension I'm between, as well as the embarrassment of the man. "You seem too occupied, so I approached you to ask. Maybe you could tell me some, and I'd just listen. What's up? Bother to tell me?"
"It's fine, really. I just find the first snow alluring. I remember that it's been years since I had the chance to play with the first flakes in winter. I've missed being a child."
"You miss her?" a halt. He shouldn't have opened the topic. He avoided the girl's eyes embarrassed.
"It's been a year, Keith, I already moved on. I don't even remember her birthday. And besides, you're already here," she balled her fist. A lie. She misses her so much.
"Kat- sorry for mentioning her name again, but I know she misses you. And you miss her, too."
