CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT When she got back home, Anna was sleepy and took a long afternoon nap. She was awakened being tossed up and down. The boys had arrived and were jumping on her bed. “Hello, Mother,” said Sam, looking closely at her face. “We’ve been jumping for a quite a while,” said Paul. “You were really asleep.” Anna was quite groggy from the champagne and saw four faces in front of her. She shook her head and they came into focus. “Hello, boys. I must have been in a very deep sleep. How was school?” “They asked me to be in the Christmas pageant,” said Paul. “But I told them we are going to Fairfield for Christmas, so I couldn’t do it.” “I’m sorry.
