CHAPTER TWENTY SIX The crowd grew louder as the sculls came closer. Hampshire was neck and neck with Boston English. Sam and Saranac arrived, dropped their bikes and joined the family to cheer. Sam noticed Will. “Father! You’re here!” Will hugged him. “Hello, Sam. Look, I think Paul is going to win!” A hundred yards out, Boston English pulled ahead. “Go Hampshire!” Sam yelled. “You can do it, Paul!” The crowd noise was building. The Hampshire team drew from their cheers and pulled ahead at the last minute to cross the finish line first. Everyone jumped up and down in triumph. “Paul won!” yelled Sam. “He did,” said Anna. “I’m very glad you were here to see it, Will.” “So am I,” he said. “Let’s go down to the dock and congratulate him.
