“Why didn’t you say anything when I did?” Rob wanted to believe him, but how could he? How could he not? Rob closed his eyes. Did he mean that, or was love blind? “I-I don’t know. I wanted the job. I wanted the chance: for myself, and to prove myself to you, show you I’ve changed, turned my life around because of one simple act that your generosity made possible. I also wanted the job to make the life I wanted possible. I never thought of you and me. Not like this. I mean…” Rob looked up to see Lee red faced. “I might have thought about it a little.” Lee’s eyes darted left and right; trapped. “I never thought it would happen. I thought you were straight. Then you asked me to live here, and even then I swear I would never have done anything if we hadn’t realised we were both interested.
