The future is on her will. ~ I climbed the tallest tree I found here in the forest while watching my werewolf friends trying to catch up. We raced coming here and they were even in their wolf form when they ran yet I still managed to outrun them as a human, though not full blooded human, but I am not a werewolf either, I’m more of a half, yeah, a half of both, but I don’t have a wolf inside me. My father is a werewolf who works as a politician, in his human form of course, and my mother is a full blooded human. I don’t know what went inside the head of the moon goddess to give my father a human mate. And their offspring is me, obviously. As far as I know, there aren’t any recent cases similar to my parent’s relationship. Well, I’ve read in a thick old and dusty history book that in the past, there were three mated couples --human and werewolf existed at the same period, and they also had offsprings similar to me. If I remember it correctly, that was hundreds years ago. So it was a shock when it happened again this time. I don’t have a wolf in me, I don’t shift, I am a human fully in form. But, I have enhanced werewolf abilities. I can run fast, sometimes when I feel like my blood and adrenaline is pumping too high, I can outrun my werewolf friends, and climb better than them. I sometimes think that I might be a vampire, but the fact that I don’t crave for blood and there are no pointed canines appearing on my teeth confirm that I am not. Though I think, vampires are cool. You see, they get to live for like hundreds or even thousands of years. But anyway, me, being advanced is I guess… maybe it was to compensate the absence of a wolf in me. Well, the moon goddess would be unfair if neither have I a wolf nor abilities right? It would not be fair if I’d be weak and powerless. “Come down now, Llana!” Ali shouted when they already shifted. “I’ll stay here for a while. You guys go ahead, tell Mom, I’ll be back after the sun set.” I answered looking down at them. They left and I sat at a big branch of this tree and looked around. I can see the top of smaller trees and some branches are filled with birds, maybe going back to their homes and nests since the sun is starting to set. It is always fun to watch the sunset, it always amazes me. The surroundings were tainted with the orange light of the sun as it starts to hide behind the mountains. I placed my hand in front of my forehead to shield my eyes from the blinding light and so I could watch its beauty. It’s been more than a year when I turned 18. I wonder if I have a mate or I am waiting for nothing since I don’t have a wolf in me and I’m just a product of a full blooded human and a werewolf. I haven’t finished the history book yet so I don’t know if the offsprings of those three ‘rare’ couples found their mate or if they had one. I wanted to know more about them since I am like them, but I forgot where I placed the book. I jumped and landed perfectly with one knee and a palm on the ground. I am really suspicious of myself now, I could be a vampire! But, no. I walked back home and as I near the door of our house, the smell of cinnamon engulfed my nose. “Hmm. Tonight’s dinner will be great.” I muttered. My mother is a good cook and always tries to make new delicious recipes, so I guess she discovered a recipe with cinnamon, I can even smell it from here, it smells good. I hurriedly opened the door because I feel like I’m drooling already. I’m excited to taste my mother’s new recipe! “Hello? Mom?” our house is kinda big, with a huge stairs on the side going up to my father’s office, to his conference room, and to bedrooms which we plenty have because some business and politics associates and friends of my father sometimes stay here whenever they get late finishing whatever business they have in the conference room. My friends also stay here sometimes and I’m grateful for it because being an only child sucks. I went to the kitchen and found my father and his associates which most of them are his personal friends eating on the dining table, well I consider them all as my uncles and aunties already because I basically saw them often around the house as I grew up, and some of those who are new and near my age I made friends with them too, young entrepreneurs and politicians— young but successful, but I bet they have high backgrounds that’s why. “Good to see you again, Llana.” Aunt Lilibeth greeted me. “You too, Auntie.” Some also greeted me while I was passing on their table as I walked straight to the kitchen island to see my mom getting more food. I just smiled, waved and responded shortly to the greetings since I am so excited to see what my mother made. She carried the bowl of cooked meat towards the table so I followed her. “What did you cook this time, mommy? It smells good!” I exclaimed like a kid who is excited for a surprise cupcake. “It’s just the normal Curry, Llana.” She answered while placing the bowl on the table and they dig in on it. “You thought your mom made another recipe again?” my father asked laughing a bit so my aunts and uncles also did, and I faked a pout. I noticed a couple of young unfamiliar faces here but I guess they are new associates of my father. “Yeah it smells sooo good. I thought you made something with a cinnamon, I can smell it mom. Don’t try to hide it from me.” I kinda love to eat so I guess my mother is hiding some food! No, no, it can’t be. My foooood! She sat down and laughed at my childish attitude as I just stood beside her. “Why would I hide it, silly. Sit down and eat.” “I’ll eat later. I gotta find that new recipe, mom. You can’t hide it from me.” I went back to the kitchen and tried to open the containers and bowls there but did not find any new, so maybe she served it… and they already ate it all! Noooo. I walked behind their chairs looking at the dishes served on the long table. “You’re creeping out our guests, Llana.” My father said but there was still a hint of amusement in his voice, and besides, the people here are like a part of my family already, so no worries of creeping them out. “I gotta see that cinnamon recipe of mommy, dad. I can’t believe she served it to everyone without me tasting it!” “Honey, I did not—“ “Oh wait. The smell of cinnamon is strong here… Excuse me, may I just see those dishes closely.” I asked to the unknown man and I reached a platter but it contains shrimp, not a new recipe so it doesn’t have cinnamon in it. While I was putting back the platter the scent is still strong but I couldn’t find it. Then unconsciously, my nose followed where the scent is located strongest. And I found myself sniffing a man’s hair who’s sitting two seats away from the man near the shrimp. “Wow. Where did you get your shampoo? It smells good, it’s a cinnamon scent, right?” oh, am I being too friendly to a stranger? He cleared his throat so I stepped back, a bit embarrassed and I noticed everyone’s stare at me. “Oh. I’m sorry.” I said and my father is now looking at me very serious so I guess I really made a wrong move this time. The man stood up and turned to face me. I looked up at his face and noticed his green eyes looking at my blue ones. He looks good wearing a casual but still business appropriate look with a plain shirt underneath a dark blue blazer and jeans, but a bit scary because he looks so serious as if his stares could kill. I gulped as he towered over me. He’s more than 6ft. if I’m not mistaken, and I look so small and tiny with his height and built. He could snap my neck or throw me somewhere anytime because of the disrespectful act I did to him as our guest. “Mate.” He uttered which shocked me. How? I mean, really? But, he looks dangerous tho. “Umm. Dad?” I turned to my father to ask if this man is fond of making jokes or what. If only I have a wolf then maybe she could recognize our mate. But according to wolf book, touching them would send sparks. Err, like fireworks? I think that’s kinda exaggerated and I can’t just touch him, right? He might break my bones suddenly. “There isn’t any cinnamon here, sweetie. What you smell is your mate.” “H-he looks d-dangerous, dad.” the man is still standing in front of me, his green eyes are darkening while looking at me then it would shift back again to its normal color. “Are you scared of me?” his voice was deep as he whispered and touched my cheek with the back of his fingers which sent shivers on my spine and caused my heart to beat erratically. I looked at his eyes and I felt like I am being pulled by them. His touch was hot and burning my skin in a good way I couldn’t explain. My knees went weak as I felt a twist on my lower abdomen and felt foreign feelings I couldn’t understand. “W-what’s your name?” I stuttered. “You’ll know later, baby. Go sit and eat first.” His voice was firm and sounds like an order I needed to follow in which I absentmindedly did and nodded slowly as if hypnotized by him.
