Chapter Forty-two That morning, Matthew, Oscar and Lena arrived at court early, as was their normal behaviour during the trial. Even with an hour to go before the trial resumed, the foyer was a little like a crowded train station to Matthew, with defendants, witnesses, lawyers and onlookers scurrying in all directions, impatient for the day’s proceedings to commence. As the minutes ticked by and there was no sign of their client, the trio went downstairs to wait in the court foyer. ‘Perhaps her solution was to flee the jurisdiction?’ Oscar said with an anxious glance towards the entrance door. ‘It’s possible,’ Matthew replied, ‘but I don’t think so.
