The first unexpect reunion
*CHAPTER 1
It was 6:30 am. I left home in a hurry, my backpack and my coffee thermos in hand. Autumn had already arrived, and golden and reddish leaves covered the university campus ground. I was walking fast, my mind full of assignments and presentations.
When I entered the university, I saw a tall guy with slightly messy black hair and a somewhat untidy uniform. He was holding a notebook in his hand. Distracted, I bumped into him and my notebook fell to the floor.
—Sorry —I said, embarrassed, bending down to pick it up.
He bent down at the same time and handed it to me with a beautiful smile.
—Here you go —he said—. Be more careful next time.
I looked up and met his light brown eyes, warm like a sunrise. I blushed.
—Thank you —I mumbled, and ran toward my class.
In the hallway I heard his voice behind me:
—Then I hope fate makes us meet again —he said, sliding his hands into his pockets and giving me one last look before turning around—. Making eye contact with a stranger feels good, but you know what? You're not going to see me again.
I headed to the classroom. My friends were already there and laughing about something. When they saw me they stared at me and then we hugged like always.
My friends were the kind of friendship with no limits. We were a group of 4: Lizy, the shy one; Lara, the tall one of the group; and of course, we couldn't miss the cherry on top: Matías, the extroverted one.
We've known each other for 2 years and we get along really well. Matías was that kind of friend you could talk to about anything and he took it normally. He was really good at studying, just like my friend Lara. She and I met in high school and became inseparable. And we met Lizy here. She's a bit shy, but with us she was a lot of fun.
—Mathematics is essential for life —said the Public Accounting professor.
I didn't like math, but well, what he said was true.
As the class was ending I wondered if I would see him again. I hope so.
After class, my friends and I went for coffee.
—Listen, I met someone while I was trying not to be late to class —I said with a huge smile on my face.
—Really? Looks like he got to you —Matías said, laughing.
—What was his name? —Lara asked.
—His name was Rowan. At least we introduced ourselves, but I don't think I'll ever see him again —I forced a faint smile.
—Tomorrow we're going camping for two days. I heard people from other faculties will be going too —Lizy said with a pretty smile.
—Will there be deer? —Lizy asked. She loved animals and nature a lot. Lizy was one of those comforting and sincere friendships that make you feel at ease.
—We'll have time to have a picnic just the four of us —I said to reassure her.
—I think so! —Matías exclaimed—. That would be super great —he added.
