Chapter Five – My Blood

Teddy Hood had slammed the door in her face the first five times, but Jess kept going back. He buzzed her into the building every time, and Jess wondered if he just wanted to humiliate her as a punishment.
The sixth time, on New Year’s Eve, she hadn’t actually expected him to be let in, thinking he might be in a bar somewhere, drowning his sorrows. The news on DJ was that she had been released from hospital, her kidney damage a lot less serious than first feared, and was now ‘at home, resting with her loving mother.’
