That was the most awkward dinner I’d ever been to. It was bad enough that I had to sit next to Sam, per my brother’s instructions, but for my father and Sam’s father to talk about how perfect we looked together while Neffi sat across from us made it worse. She looked both hurt and betrayed. I hated making her feel that way and it took everything in me not to push my brother out of the way and sit next to Neffi.
