Chapter 8Dante Today, Dante awoke before sunrise. He opened the balcony door and walked out onto the terrace where he gazed upon the fog over Alirie. The ominous howl of the wind below was making him think of uncontrolled falling. What if he couldn’t stop the descent? He didn’t remember a time when he couldn’t do it. If anyone else fell from here, they would die, but he would keep living. He always kept living. Dante walked back into his room. The corridor outside was quiet. He opened the door and saw Zakiel standing between his door and the prince’s bedroom. “You’re up early,” the veteran cherub said. Dante leaned on the wall. “It’s my big day. I shouldn’t disappoint my audience.” “Want me to help you escape?” Dante glanced at Zakiel, confused. Wouldn’t this be some kind of treason?
