FABIANA POV
The weight of his body on top of mine was the only constant in this marriage of lies. Genuinely, desire clouded my judgment for a second and I reached for his mouth.
But he turned his face abruptly, pinning my wrists against the sheets with a cold strength that forced a groan out of me, stopping me dead in my tracks.
"You know that's not allowed," his voice sounded devoid of any emotion.
I swallowed hard, feeling the cold metal of his ring against my skin.
"I'm sorry," I whispered.
He didn't answer.
He carried on with his business, claiming my body with his massive c**k but maintaining an unbearable distance between our faces.
Minutes later, he got out of bed without looking at me and walked into the bathroom.
He was an imposing man, used to giving orders, but in this house, he was almost a ghost.
He rarely returned to this home that he himself had bought for me.
I listened to the sound of the shower and slowly sat up, hugging my knees.
When he stepped out, he was already wearing an impeccable three-piece suit, adjusting the cufflinks on his sleeves.
The businessman was back, leaving behind the s****l demon that had just been f*****g me in our bed a few minutes ago.
"We need to talk," he said, without looking up from his cuffs. "Caitlyn is pregnant. The child is mine, and I'm going back to her. We're getting married."
The floor seemed to disappear beneath my feet.
"I understand," I said with a composure that surprised even me.
He blinked, subtly baffled by my lack of tears.
I was sure he expected a scene, a scream, something to justify his cold distance, but I just clenched my teeth.
I wasn't going to break down.
Not in front of him.
"I prepared the preliminary documents," he continued, regaining control immediately. "Our three-year contract expires soon anyway. My lawyer will review the terms of the asset settlement this afternoon. I won't leave you stranded. I know your situation."
My situation.
To him, I was still the poor, defenseless orphan he rescued from the streets to forge a fake identity as a wealthy heiress.
He needed a suitable wife to escape the arranged marriage his strict family was forcing upon him, and I needed to disappear from the map.
For three years, we played the perfect couple in front of the press and high society.
His public attentiveness, his protective glances at events, and the raw intensity of our intimacy had made me lose my mind.
I fell in love like a fool, believing that the flashes of possessiveness he displayed meant something real.
But no.
To him, I was just an efficient employee fulfilling the role of "the suitable wife." And now, another woman's womb was giving him the heir he always wanted.
"You don't need to justify yourself," I interrupted him, crossing my arms. "A contract is a contract. We always knew this day would come."
He narrowed his eyes, analyzing my expression.
"I'm glad you're being reasonable. I thought this would be harder. Caitlyn is anxious to move to the city, and I want to expedite the paperwork. We will sign the divorce next month."
"Surprising," I murmured, taking a step toward him. "But I have one condition before I put my signature on that paper."
He let out a dry, barely audible laugh.
"Money? More properties? Ask for whatever you want, I won't skimp on the price of my freedom."
"I don't want your money."
"Then what?" he asked, arching an eyebrow, impatient.
"I want you to be my real husband during this final month," I said, holding his gaze with absolute firmness. "No more separate public appearances. No more apartments in the city. You will live here, with me, in this house. We will have breakfast together, dinner together, and you will act like a man in love with his wife behind closed doors. When the thirty days are up, I will sign whatever you want and vanish from your life forever."
The room fell into a deathly silence. His features hardened, shifting into a mask of deep suspicion.
"A real month?" he repeated. "What are you planning? You know perfectly well that I feel nothing for you. Is this some kind of trap to hold on to my family's name?"
I couldn't help but let out a mocking laugh.
"It's my only condition," I replied, taking another step forward, stopping just inches from his chest. "Take it or leave it. If you refuse, I will challenge every single clause of the original contract in court. I will delay your wedding with Caitlyn for years. I will expose her bastard pregnancy to the press and ruin your company's stock value. I will destroy the public image you worked so hard to protect."
He clenched his jaw so hard I saw a muscle twitch in his cheek.
"Are you threatening me?" he asked, stepping dangerously close to my face.
"I'm offering you a clean deal," I corrected coldly. "One month. Then, you're free."
He stared at me, searching for any trace of hesitation in my eyes.
"Fine," he finally said, stepping back. "One month. But I'm warning you about one thing: don't try anything stupid. If you try to sneak into my bed to get pregnant or change your mind, I'll break the deal and you'll walk away with nothing. Is that clear?"
"Crystal clear," I replied with a forced smile on my lips.
When the front door of the mansion shut with a heavy thud, the facade of bravery that had held me up wobbled for a second, but I refused to shed a single tear.
Liam thought this month was an orphan's desperate attempt to hold onto him.
He had no idea who I really was.
Nor that my true family had been searching for me for years.
I had refused to return to them out of sheer love for him.
How stupid I had been!
I took my personal phone, the one he never checked, and looked for a contact I hadn't touched in three years.
I typed a message with steady fingers across the screen:
> "Hey, brother. You were right. The marriage is over. His mistress is pregnant. Come pick me up in exactly one month. I'm ready to come back home and reclaim controlof our corporation to sink those who betrayed me."
>
I hit send. The message was marked as delivered instantly.
