“We picked sides in wars that the humans wanted to fight, sides that would pit us against each other. We rose through the ranks because of our abilities. Though that hasn’t happened for a few hundred years… the last big war that broke out between our two species was during the Austria-Ottoman wars five hundred years ago.”
“I didn’t know that.” Lillian regretted how fascinated she was by all of this new information, because she knew she’d never be able to chase it up. She’d never get access to that secret vampire library!
“Of course you don’t,” Viktor snarled cruelly. “You uncivilized barbarians never bothered to keep records, and there was more infighting amongst the shifters than amongst a dozen Tasmanian devils caged in the same pen.”
