Chapter 72
FROM THEIR VANTAGE point in the Prius out on the street, Ryan and Leonard, dressed in a full black outfit complete with ski mask and gloves, observed the goings-on in Melissa’s house. They saw the downstairs light turn off and a soft light, perhaps from a bed lamp, go on upstairs. Sometime later, all trace of light in the house was gone. Everything was dark.
They got out of the car and went around to the rear of the house to check for entry points. They discovered a heavy reinforced door and toughened windows fitted with deadbolts. Security was tight.
They tried a common weak point in many houses—the cellar door. An expertly applied crowbar got them in. They quietly crept through the basement, up the stairs and into the house. All was quiet.
But not for long.
