THE EUPHORIA OF OUR amazing night together was still running through my brain and I’d been having a sweet, dreamless sleep. I felt content, relaxed and happy. As my senses slowly came to awareness, I wondered what had woken me.
Then I felt it.
A cold, hard cylinder pressed firmly into my temple. My system suddenly flooded with adrenaline as the fight-or-flight reflex kicked in. Sensing danger, it took all my control not to cry out and suddenly leap out of bed.
Staying totally still, I slowly opened my eyes. Moonlight washed faintly through the curtains, just enough for me to see an outline of a person standing over me. From the corner of my eye I made out the sinister shape of a g*n barrel.
