The castle shook, pulling me from my thoughts. Cracks tore through the walls of my cell and bits of rubble and debris fell from the ceiling. Dust began to fill the air, causing me to cough. I looked at the wall where my chains were bolted, a small crack ran through the bolt. I pushed through the pain of my searing skin trying to pull the chains loose from the wall. The shackle burned into my wrist further and the smell of burning flesh filled the air. I screamed as I tried to pull the bolt loose from the wall, but it was no use. I wasn't strong enough. The gold weakened my strength the further it melted into my skin. I fell to my knees out of breath and feeling defeated.
