Finally, My Mate
I adjusted my dress for the 100th time today and readjusted the chairs. Even the rose petals were not spared. I wanted everything to be perfect for him when he comes. Imagining the look of surprise on his face made me grin like an i***t, and you might be wondering why a silly stupid smile is on my face.
Today is the one year anniversary of me and my boyfriend, my mate, my world, my everything.
I prepared a candlelight dinner for the two of us and did everything myself, down to the tiniest detail. The candles were in place, the table was beautifully set, and the rose petals were scattered just the way I wanted. Looking at everything together, it looked like something straight out of a fairytale.
And of course, I had to look the part too.
I wore a dress that hugged every curve of my body, tight enough to show off my waist and the soft curve of my hips. The fabric followed my figure perfectly, making my waist look smaller and my hips fuller. It stopped just above my knees, leaving my legs bare and making me feel a little daring.
I turned in front of the mirror, admiring myself with a huge grin on my face. I felt beautiful. I felt feminine. Most of all, I couldn’t wait to see the look on Kirain’s face when he saw me.
And again, ohh, you must be wondering, he’s just a boyfriend, so why am I this excited and giddy?
Kirain isn’t just my boyfriend… calling him my savior isn’t far fetched.
Throughout my life, I never felt like I belong anywhere, mostly felt I was drifting with no clear direction while most people already knew who their mates was by 14, some even younger.
I’ve been lonely all my life, and seeing people happy with their mates deepened my loneliness and my yearning.
My mother says I’m a late bloomer… which was weird and unheard of for a female not to have a mate by twenty four.
Now imagine my surprise when I went to work as a waitress for a rich family… don’t judge me, the pay was ridiculously high and would pay for my mothers hospital bill for a month and I’ll still be able to sort out some bill, all of this for less then 10 hours job, my pay as a receptionist at the dental clinic barely covers my rent and I had to juggle random works to be able to pay for my mothers hospital bill.
I was working as usual when I heard a waitress beside me whisper,
“He’s here.”
My eyes followed the direction which her eyes were glued to and saw a small crowd gathering around someone.
“He is the heir to Ashbourne fortune,” she said, her eyes glinting with greed, probably thinking if she can get into his bed, she’ll be set for life.
I felt an irresistible pull towards that side of the ballroom, and when the crowd finally parted for me to have a glimpse of his face.
Our eyes met and I froze in shock. Even tho I’ve never felt what is like to identify your mate when you see him, I’ve heard stories, but nothing prepared me for the emotions that slammed into me.
My heart lurched.
Heat rushed through my body, spreading from my chest to my fingertips. My stomach twisted, and suddenly every breath felt too shallow.
Then came the strangest feeling of all.
Recognition.
I didn’t know him. I had never seen him before, yet something deep inside me whispered, him.
My wolf stirred violently beneath my skin, demanding that I move closer.
I wanted to run to him.
I wanted to run away.
I wanted him to look at me again.
And when his eyes remained locked on mine, an unfamiliar sense of warmth settled over me, almost like I had finally found somewhere I belonged.
He eyes never left mine, and he ignored everybody that was trying to get close to him or have his attention and walked towards me.
Like my body had a mind of its own, I started moving towards him.
My mind cancelled everything except him, and it seemed like we were the only one alive on the planet.
Suddenly I realized what I was doing and snapped out of the trance I was in and my steps halted.
He was the golden boy of blackridge with millions of dollars in his name while I’m a just a random poor girl that didn’t finish high school and with a sick mother as an extra baggage.
And even the job I got as a receptionist I practically groveled and begged before I was accepted reluctantly.
Unlike his circle where top ladies that studied law, medicine, accounting were after him and would kill for a chance to be beside him.
Why would he choose me?
He has almost closed the distance between us before a theory flashed in my mind.
Was he about to reject me publicly?
I could already imagine the scene.
Of him belittling me and asking me what makes me think I’m eligible to climb the social ladder just because we’re mates.
My wolf whined at the thought of it.
He finally stopped in my front, his striking blue eyes pierced into my soul.
My God he was beautiful.
