Chapter 1
You'd be getting married to Adrian Chase.
Evelyn's dad declared the moment he stepped into the living room.
Which Adrian Chase are you talking about dad?
Evelyn asked looking at him confused.
Which other Adrian Chase are there in Lincoln city? His grandma reached out to your grandma to propose marriage, and considering their relationship, your grandma agreed.
Evelyn's dad explained.
Oh my gosh Evie, you'd be marrying your long crush.
Isa, Evelyn's kid sis gusher over her.
Did Adrian agree to this arrangement? Evelyn had asked her dad after staying silent for a while.
His grandma Mrs. Chase Sr. Arranged for it, what other choice does he have. My dad retorted.
I know but... Evelyn tried to reason but was cut short by her father.
No buts, it has been decided, and it is great deal for the family, merging Nexus corporation and Montgomery dynasty, it would be revolutionary besides Adrian is a dashing fulfilled young man, he single handedly built the Nexus corporation to the level it is now, despite being abandoned by his parents, what better suitor is out there. Evelyn's dad started as a matter of fact.
Get ready, the wedding is happening in the next three months. Evelyn's dad said before matching inside.
How come you don't look happy after hearing such news, I thought this has been your dream, to spend the rest of your life with Adrian?
Isa asked Evelyn who seemed lost in thoughts.
Yes, I really want to spend the rest of my life with Adrian, but is that what he wants, as much as I love him, I still want to see him happy, what if marrying me doesn't make him happy.
Evelyn questioned Isabella.
He might act indifferent but trust me, he is going to be smitten by you, look at you, you're beautiful, gorgeous, smart, outstanding, seriously, who wouldn't fall for you. Isa asked Evelyn who just smiled.
Thanks Isa, you're right, even if he doesn't love me now, I'd make sure he gets smitten by me once I move in with him. Evelyn said with confidence.
Three months may seem far but it's actually not far, let's go get ready for the biggest wedding of the century. Isa said as we made our way to the room
Three months later
The wedding hall had been filled with roses, music, and smiling faces. Everyone said it was a perfect union — the young, dashing CEO and the gentle bride chosen for him. But as Evelyn looked at the man who was now her husband, she felt a strange distance in his eyes.
He was handsome, almost too handsome, with a presence that drew attention without effort. Yet, his gaze barely lingered on her. He smiled for the cameras, for the guests, for appearances, but never for her.
Finally the wedding was over and it was time to for Evelyn to say goodbye to family, she walked into the he room where her family were waiting to say their goodbye, the mother hugged her tight with a mixture of tears of joy and that of uncertainty, arranged marriage has been a norm established for the wealthy and powerful families, she too had an arranged marriage but she had hoped her daughters would marry for love.
Be strong and always remember that a woman's duty is to her family, but that shouldn't make you loose yourself, always be happy and don't forget that you are a Montgomery. The doors are always opened to you, her mother whispered.
Evelyn's father just looked at her solemnly, not showing any emotions at all, taking Evelyn's hand he said to Adrian Chase "don't forget she's a Montgomery", with that he handed Evelyn over to Adrian and went back to his sit.
Isabella on the other hand couldn't stop her tears from flowing, she was happy her sister was finally getting married to the love of her life but scared at the same time if Evelyn would be able to handle Adrian's indifference,
"don't forget sis, I will be always here for you, mom too, so don't keep it locked in, if Adrian tries to mess with you, don't hesitate to tell us, me especially and I will teach him a lesson ". Evelyn could not hold back her tears at Isa's word, she hugged her tight without saying a single word, just letting her emotions out through her eyes.
Her brother however just tapped her back a couple of times before walking out.
Later, when the night fell quiet and they were alone, she tried to speak — a soft word, a gentle gesture — but he only nodded, his tone polite, cold, businesslike.
Evelyn lay awake long after, staring at the ceiling, wondering why her marriage already felt like a contract signed in ink, not in love.
Don't worry Evie, he will definitely fall for you once he sees your charm, Evelyn encouraged herself as I looked at the never smiling Adrian.
