Chapter 001
VIOLET
My periods were never accurate, I've missed them countless times due to PCOS. But I should've known I was pregnant this time.
The feelings were just different… The cramping and nausea that hit me while I was preparing dinner last night.
I stared at the two bold pink lines, my heart skipping a beat. Even though I can't recall when we last had s*x, it is finally going to happen. I and my husband, Alpha Ethan, would finally be parents. After five long years of marriage..
I carefully wrapped the test strip back up and I picked up my mobile phone to set an appointment with the pack's doctor. I needed to know the condition of my pregnancy.
If I was going to lose it…
I frowned the moment I thought about that. I've been battling with polycystic ovarian syndrome for the past six years which has made me gain weight.
I have hormonal acne, skin tags and to make it all worse, no treatment worked. I've always tried to lose weight and look presentable for Alpha Ethan.
Although he never for once complained about my weight or how I looked. He just didn't love me for who I was.
My sister, Winona, on the other hand, was a beauty. Slim, dark straight hair, perfect teeth and smooth face. We were born on the same day, but we were totally different. I hear people sometimes say she was unlucky to be born on the same day as me.
My father wasn’t left out in the hatred chain. He’d always favored Winona and her mother. Growing up, I was forced to stay indoors and never allowed to show my face. While Winona was given the leverage of attending all the pack's parties and galas.
I sighed, finally washing my acne filled face before heading back into the bedroom to change as my appointment at the hospital was an hour away.
“Congratulations, Luna Violet. You're pregnant with two healthy pups” doctor Stewart, the packs specialist , said after I got to his office.
I smiled brightly as I took the test results from him. It was true, I was indeed pregnant with twins. The goddess has finally blessed me for all my years of struggle.
“Doctor, is there anything I should be wary of?” I asked curiously.
“It's a miracle that you conceived in your condition. Please ensure you have enough rest and regulate your emotions. That will help a lot in keeping your pregnancy stable,” he explained.
“Thank you.” I replied.
I left the hospital premises with an unending excitement on my face.
Even the butler noticed. “Luna, you seem to be in a good mood today…” he said politely.
“Yes, Harold… I'm elated.” I replied, smiling.
He stared at me through the rearview mirror as he spoke. “Where are we heading?” He asked.
“To the pack, please.” I said immediately.
I couldn't let this news wait, telling Ethan was my priority now.
We arrived at the Moonburn pack house after a forty minute drive.
My heart heaved a long sigh of relief as I noticed Ethan's car packed in front of the mansion.
It was finally the moment and I couldn't bear to wait. To tell him we were finally going to be parents after a long five years of waiting and trial.
I rushed inside, heading towards Ethan's bedroom and without warning, I pushed the door open only for me to see Ethan sitting on the couch near his bed, while Winona, who was dressed in a pink tube and mini leather skirt, sat on his lap with her hands folded around his shoulders.
For a moment, I froze. “No..” I exclaimed, trying not to overthink what was happening in front of me. They aren't doing what I think they are…
“What the hell is going on here?” I finally summoned the courage to ask, stepping into the room. My eyes are not leaving Ethan's cold gaze.
He gently pushed Winona aside and sat upright, then he adjusted his shirt. “You're back” he said, his voice cold..
“I asked a question, Ethan,” I said slowly, less polite. I've never spoken to Ethan in this manner before.
“Sis, it's not what you think…Alpha Ethan was only comforting me because I sprained my legs,” Winona explained quickly.
“The position I met you both doesn't seem to depict your explanation, Winona.” I said. “Regardless, I'll choose to believe you because I'm in a good mood today.”
I moved closer to the couch and I pulled Winona out. She pulled on my shirt and in return, I fell. My stomach made a twitch immediately and I paused.
“My babies..” the words tore out of my lips in a loud sob.
“What?” Ethan asked, moving towards me but Winona screamed loudly instead and collapsed on the ground.
“My legs hurt so much. I can't carry them,” she cried loudly.
“Violet, what have you done?” Ethan moved past me and went to Winona. Right in front of me, he carried her up in his arms.
“Sis, I didn't do anything to offend you, why did you push me?” Winona cried out again.
Her pretense was obvious but Ethan chose to be blind about it just like everyone. She had always been this way, pretentious and always trying to get everything I ever had.
“I didn't push you, Winona…” I argued. “I only wanted you out of the couch. That was my space.” I added defensively.
“That didn't give you the right to treat her that way, Violet.” Ethan's cold voice spoke before I said anything else.
“Ethan I have something to tell you,” I said to him, pulling myself up with the help of clutching onto the couch for support.
“What is it?” Ethan asked, sounding like I was bothering him.
Winona and I exchanged glances briefly and then I glanced back at Ethan. “It's private.” I responded, my eyes darting towards my sister.
Ethan glanced at her then at me. “Winny is family. She doesn't have to excuse us.”
“Ethan, now's not the time for that. We really need to talk,” I said.
“Sis, I'm so sorry if I'm disturbing you and your husband's moment. I'll excuse myself now,” Winona said pitifully and then turned to leave but Ethan stopped her.
He placed both hands on her shoulders and stared into her face.. such a romantic gesture, I've never experienced from him before.
“I’m right here, Winny, and I consider you as family.” Ethan turns back to me. “Stop being stubborn and tell me, Violet. Winny isn't going anywhere. She stays here as family” he grabs her hand into his and squeezes it gently.
I felt a blow to my chest and my stomach dropped. Even in my presence he still shows how much he cares about her. I have been pretending all the rumors about them circulating in the pack were just rumors but it was glaring now that I have been lying to myself all along.
“Ethan, it's confidential.”
“And I say Winona is family. Don't you get it Violet?” He shouted at me.
“I'm pregnant.” I screamed out.
The room fell into silence, deep and long. Ethan didn't take his gaze off me for a while.
“What?” He asked, his brow raised in shock.
I stared at him, confusion filling my face as I didn't know what his response would be. He didn't say anything for a while and I brought out the test results from my bag and handed it to him..
Before he could take the test result, Winona’s voice echoed. “Ethan, I am not trying to separate your family but this baby isn't yours.”
My heart sank at Winona's words. Of all the things she had been doing to me, this was the worst.
Without giving me the chance to explain myself to Ethan, she went on. “Sis, I am sorry but he has to know,” seeing her act innocent made me want to tear her apart. “Having a bastard in the alpha's family is forbidden and I can't let that happen to Ethan. He considered me family.”
“Winona, what are you talking about?”
“My sister had an affair with this nobody. Here is a proof from one of their passionate nights,” Winona brought out her phone, stretching it over to Ethan.
Ethan's face changed completely, deep anger cast on his face. “So this is what you have been doing behind my back? I thought as much because I haven't touched you for as long as I can remember!” His words hit me like bricks, breaking me in ways I couldn't explain.
“I always made sure to use condoms because I never wanted a child from you and even when I don't, I made sure—”
“Ethan, don't you…”
Winona's loud scream made my words stuck in my throat.
“Winny, what's wrong?” Ethan asked with concern he had never shown me ever since we got married.
“My stomach hurts, I think I ate something bad…” she complained, clutching tightly to her stomach. Ethan leaned and picked her up quickly.
“Where the hell are you going?” I grabbed Ethan's arm as I watched him walk out on me, pulling him back.
He shrugged me off like I was the most disgusting he ever set his eyes on. “I deserve way better Luna than you! My only mistake was letting my grandfather have a say in our marriage!”
My heart shattered into pieces as I watched him rush out with Winona tightly in his arms. Months ago I had fallen sick as well and when I complained, he never reacted this way. Instead he referred me to the pack's clinic.
I tried to stand up from the ground but it was as if my body was numb, my head spinning and my vision becoming blurry.
I leaned against the couch for support as my hormones hit me hard with a sharp pain in my stomach..
I froze the moment I lowered my gaze. Blood was trailing down my thighs.
“No… no… my babies…” The words tore out of me, barely more than a whisper before they broke into a sob. My hands trembled as panic set in, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it might shatter.
Desperation took over. I fumbled through my purse, my fingers clumsy and unsteady until they found my phone. With shaking hands, I dialed the one person who had always been there for me.
My best friend, Joan
