Chapter Four

1001 Words
Chapter 4 Flies buzzed around Daniel and Dontrell as they were behind a very smelly garbage found inside a narrow alley. They could hear the running steps from a distance as they squeezed themselves to the wall to conceal their body from their sight. The buildings that surrounded them also helped them get away from the thugs that were following them since the light could not pass through because of the narrow space. Dontrell flicked away the fly that alighted on his shoulder. Daniel reacted by producing slight vertical folds in between his eyebrows and blew air out of his nose. They still needed to stay still because they could this see that those thugs were still looking for them. They could hear them from the distance and they could see their shadows on the ground because of the slight light from the outside of the alley. When they felt that the thugs were already away, the both of them stood up and smelled themselves. Dontrell was trying to stop himself from puking. He was used to the street but the garbage bin was the thing that he really hated the most and not to mention, the thugs. Daniel shook his head while seeing Dontrell’s reaction. He started walking towards the exit of the narrow alley. Dontrell followed and he made sure that he would not count the money with him while he was on the middle of the street. They continued walking towards the path that their landlady wrote on the piece of paper. They made sure that they were vigilant. They did not know that the thugs could just be around them and could attack them behind their back. After a few walks, they arrived at the room for rent that their landlady was talking about. There were windows outside but the lights from the inside were off. Daniel and Dontrell looked at each other. The whole building was quiet. They did not know if they were people inside because did not hear any sound that could escape from the damage screen from the broken window. Dontrell tried to push the gate and it produced a high-pitched sound, a creak. The gate’s hinges were already rusty. As Dontrell let go of the gate, it swung itself open. They were wondering why the gate was open if the people renting inside were not home yet. Daniel looked at the clock on the big screen attached to a big building. He did not notice that it was already six in the evening. They were too occupied earlier. Their mind was filled with thoughts on how to get away from them. They were lucky that they could run fast compared to those thugs that had heavy bodies. They tried to enter. They stepped inside the open gate. The moment that they were already a meter away from the main door, it opened. As if the door had automatically determine that they were people who were trying to get inside. Or… Someone was expecting them. Daniel and Dontrell looked at each other. They did not know if going there was a great idea. Was the landlady really sure of the place that she recommended? The both of them were contemplating on whether to get inside or not. They could not believe that their landlady referred the place to them. It looked like an old house. Daniel looked outside. The house looked like it was out of place. It did not belong to the large buildings and Infrastructures situated aligned and across it. “Come in,” someone from the inside invited. They did not see anyone. It was just a voice that they heard. They also saw that the lights turned on. Daniel and Dontrell assessed the part that they could see from the inside and it looked like the place was a decent room for them to rent. The two decided to get inside the building. It was a two-storey building. They could see that they were am estimated ten numbers of rooms on the second floor while the first floor had five. They were greeted with a spacious living room. There was a table decorated with a flower in a vase on the middle of it. Despite of the voice and the switching on of the lights, Daniel and Dontrell did not saw anyone I'll n the house. “Hello?” Dontrell asked but no one was answering. They both looked at each other. “Let us just get out of here. They were still many room for rents that we can find,” Daniel suggested and turned around but when the moment that he stepped forward, the door automatically closed. Daniel immediately tried to open the door but even rotating the knob was impossible. He shook the door but nothing was happening. The door looked like it was already over a decades and they could not understand why they were being locked up. There was no way that the landlady did not know about this she was the one who gave them the address. As the minutes went by, they heard something. There was a hissing sound coming from the corners of the room. Daniel tried to continue shaking the door but it did not work. They inhaled and they could really say that there was different about the air that they were breathing right now. They could feel that their surroundings were spinning. Daniel looked at the corners of the room one last time, he could see a tube producing transparent chemicals mixed with the air. His eyes were getting heavy but before it totally close. He saw how Dontrell collapsed to the ground. His eyes caught a glimpse of a man who went out from one of the door from the second floor. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ As they saw their targets opening the gate of the old building, they immediately opened the main door as they were already in a half-way distance.
