Eden missed. She wasn't sure she would have hit home anyway, but the firecracker pop of the gunshot that preceded hers by a millisecond surprised her enough to jerk her aim astray. Her bullet went in the ceiling, while the other shattered the window and drilled into the side of Cristian's head. Eden fell back, blood streaming from her nose where the man's boot had caught her int he face with a glancing blow. He hadn't broken anything, but that was going to blossom into a healthy bruise by the morning.
