Flashback
Rhoda’s heart was filled with love for her husband, Canagan, but it pained her to think that he never showed any affection in return, not even for a fleeting moment. As the alpha of their pack, he seemed to carry the weight of responsibility constantly, leaving no room for vulnerability or tenderness.
One day, as she sat with her thoughts, her adolescent son, Alex, approached her with concern etched across his face. “Mum, I want to ask you a question, how and when will I transform into my wolf form?” he asked, his eyes searching for answers. Rhoda’s heart swelled with affection for her son, the one person who brought her the most joy in this complex world.
“The transformation usually occurs between the age of 16 to 20. Yours might be earlier because you took after your father and you are going to be the strongest Alpha of all time. During this time, you will experience physical and emotional changes, which are similar to puberty in humans. The transformation takes place during the full moon, and the process can be painful but you will live my son” Rhoda told him with confidence
“During the transformation, you will begin to feel a surge of powerful emotions and instincts and also feel a strong connection to the lunar cycle and experience heightened senses. Your bones c***k and reform, and your body undergoes changes and you will shift into a powerful and majestic wolf form and I can’t wait for your transformation ceremony” After this detailed explanation, Alex was convinced that his time is coming and he can’t wait,
“Interrupting their precious moment, Canagan’s voice broke through, tinged with irritation. “I do not know what you were thinking about. I’ve been calling you for a while now, and you didn’t respond,” he said with a hint of anger in his eyes.
Rhoda blinked, briefly startled by his sudden presence. “Sorry about that,” she replied gently. “I was just lost in thought.”
“Anyway,” Canagan continued, “I want to warn you not to leave the territory. Nightshade Alpha has gone rogue, and he’s willing to kill anyone on sight.” Rhoda couldn’t help but notice the glimmer of fear in her husband’s eyes, and she wondered what might have transpired to make them a target. Though she nodded in understanding, Canagan abruptly departed without offering further explanation.
As the Luna of their pack, Rhoda bore the responsibility of caring for the well-being of all its members. It was her compassionate heart that made her stand out as a leader, but little did she know that it would also be her undoing.
Amid her duties, Rhoda heard a desperate cry for help. Also, one of the pack’s elders, urgently called out for her. “Luna, where are you? Please, I need your help. My son’s life is in danger!” he implored.
Rhoda’s heart raced with concern as she sprang into action without waiting for Canagan’s guidance. Without hesitation, she rushed to confront the source of distress, determined to protect one of their own.
Upon arriving at the scene, Rhoda decided to assess the situation from afar before taking action. Concealing herself, she eavesdropped on the intense exchange unfolding before her. Two wolves were locked in a heated dispute, and the voice of the accuser bore the commanding tone of an Alpha, though his identity remained hidden.
The accused, Milhaud, clung to his defence with tears in his eyes. “I can’t believe you got her pregnant, my lovely wife. How could you?” he cried out, his emotions raw and turbulent.
But the accuser remained resolute, scoffing at the plea. “Yes, I got her pregnant. So what? She is my mate, and you stole her from me!” he declared with conviction.
The confrontation escalated, and in a blink of an eye, the Alpha transformed into a formidable brown wolf with striking black markings, ready to pounce. Rhoda sensed the danger, her instincts urging her to intervene. As she called for backup, the situation grew increasingly perilous, and she couldn’t stand idly by as the potential for tragedy loomed.
Without further hesitation, Rhoda transformed into her wolf form, springing forth with courage and determination to protect Milhaud from the wrath of the Alpha.
But what unfolded next was a tragedy that would forever haunt the pack. Amid the chaos, Canagan is blinded by the intensity of the moment and unaware of Rhoda’s true identity, for she is the Luna of their rival. Fatally bit her neck. As the realisation of his mistake dawned upon him, it was too late. Rhoda died on the spot.

Alex POV
Alex’s heart swelled with relief as he watched Isabelle run away from the execution. The flames of vengeance for his mother’s death still burned within him, but the thought of harming innocent lives was a weight he refused to bear. He could only hope that Isabelle had made it safely back to her pack.
The night Isabelle vanished, Julian demanded answers from the guards on duty.
“How did she escape?” Julian’s voice was steely, his eyes narrow as he fixated on the trembling guards.
“We don’t know,” one of the guards stammered, fear clear in his voice. The guards seemed genuinely clueless about her escape, and Alex carefully maintained his façade of innocence. His father was suspicious of him, but there was no evidence.
Julian’s face twisted in frustration. “Unbelievable! Logan, make an example out of them. Let this serve as a reminder that my orders are to be followed without question.”
Logan, the head guard, barked orders, and the guards were taken to the training ground. Alex watched as they were mercilessly flogged until they crumbled to the ground, unconscious.
Julian’s fury didn’t end with the guards. His attention turned to Alex, his tone sharp and cutting. “And you, Alex. Have you severed ties with her? She will never be your mate as long as I’m alive.”
Alex’s heart raced, anger bubbling within him at his father’s words. He wanted to challenge Julian’s authority, to express his feelings for Isabelle, but the words caught in his throat. All he could manage was silence, the weight of his father’s expectations, and anger leaving him speechless.
After Julian stormed off, Alex stood by himself, feeling mixed up inside. He didn’t know whether to stick with what his dad wanted or go with his strong feelings for Isabelle. The choice seemed kind of clearer now, but Alex still wasn’t sure what would happen if he made it. Then he remembered something important – he never actually told Isabelle that he wanted her to be his mate. This thought made him feel pretty down.
Thinking about Isabelle made Alex’s heart hurt. He thought they were meant to be together. He kept picturing her pretty eyes and a warm smile in his mind, and it made him feel a fire inside. Alex looked forward to the day when they could be together and face everything as a strong couple.
Suddenly, his friend Rudolf appeared next to him and brought him back to reality. Rudolf was always teasing Alex about getting lost in his thoughts. “You’re zoning out again, buddy. Like a lone wolf in his world.”
Alex managed to smile sheepishly. He knew he tended to get lost in thinking sometimes. “It’s nothing, just thinking about some important things.”
But Rudolf wouldn’t let it go. “Come on, Alex. We’re like brothers. You can tell me anything.”
Alex took a deep breath and decided to open up. “I can’t stop thinking about Isabelle. She almost got executed.”
Rudolf looked surprised. “Wait, I thought you rejected her? And after what the Alpha said, why would you even think about being with her?”
Before Alex could answer, suddenly there was noise and chaos outside. He saw the pack members running around in panic. Alex went up to a guard to find out what was happening.
“We’re being attacked by the Nightshade pack,” the guard said, sounding scared. “Canagan found out his daughter almost got killed”
Everyone got quiet when they heard that. Rudolf’s voice sounded shaky as he heard his mate run to him. “Maya… she got taken.” Mia Rudolf’s mate said
Alex felt a rush of worry. “We need to do something fast,” he said, his voice serious.
But before they could figure things out, Aiden, his uncle’s voice, cut through the chaos. “Alex! The Alpha is gone. Canagan himself killed him.” Aiden was so hurt that they had to rush him to the pack doctor immediately.
The whole pack went silent. Those words hung in the air, and Alex felt like the world was spinning. Everything he had been thinking about felt so small compared to this new big problem. He knew he had some huge choices ahead of him, and it was going to take everything he had to deal with it.
