Ruby “I have an offer from the Grand Alpha…” The Beta of Silvercrest pack announced as he shook hands with me. We were in my office, a huge mahogany table stood between us, portraits of me and my family were hung on the wall, other than the huge safe with hundreds of files, the only thing I had was the coffee maker. Martha, my secretary was beside me, the beta emitted an aura meant for powerful wolves, Martha was clearly intimidated and as for me, my years of constant meetings with alphas and betas has shaped me up. For a month now, we were trying to get a partnership deal with the Silvercrest pack, it was proving difficult and today was like the final verdict day. “Please sit.” I urged, it was strange and I felt my skin crawl, we were the ones making the offer, but at the same time it’s an honor that the grand alpha wishes to strike a deal with me. His face was expressionless, we had a billion dollar deal on the line and it was hard to tell whether they would be willing to partner with us or not. “He wants you to come work for Silvercrest pack, a great mind like yours deserves greater opportunities, here’s a blank cheque.” He pushed forward a cheque and pen. “The alpha is willing to pay you whatever you demand and if you have none, he’s willing to give you 1% share along with your annual income monthly.” “Holy shit.” Martha mouthed. My jaw dropped, 1% shares was basically 60% of this company, nobody knew how vast the wealth of the grand alpha was, in fact all that was known to him was that he was a cold, insatiable demigod. I blinked rapidly, the words replaying in my head. I cleared my throat, pinching myself secretly to know if I was dreaming or not. It was an insane offer no doubt but then the Grand alpha was known to aggressively pursue whatever he wanted. I inhaled deeply and with a smile, I shook my head. “I’m sorry but I’ll have to decline the Grand Alpha’s offer, this company and pack is my everything, there’s no way I can abandon my family.” I answered as I shut my eyes deeply. There was too much at stake, the grand alpha had wrecked three marriages already, mine wasn’t about to be the fourth. Pulling out three very business oriented women away from their husbands which led to messy divorces and scandals. “Fine, and the grand alpha is willing to offer half a billion for the deal, I’ll have my team draft it up.” He declared and after shaking hands with me, he walked out. I blinked as I turned to Martha who was staring at me equally with an open mouth. “Did… Did we just get the offer? Martha!” I squealed with excitement. “We did, Luna, it wouldn’t have happened without you, you’re the star behind our success…” “This victory belongs to the whole team. We all put in so much work.” I replied and she nodded. “Make plans for a team dinner tonight, I’ll need a few scented candles, some roses and the finest of wines delivered to the house…” “The alpha is so lucky to have you, only the goddess knows what this company would’ve become without you. Should I inform the alpha that he’s having dinner with you at 8?” She asked as she scribbled down some words. “No, I’ll call him when it’s all laid out, I’ve got double news for him…” Subconsciously, my hand trailed down to my tummy. Her eyes almost popped out as a huge smile spread across her face. “Congratulations Luna! I’m so happy for you! Dave is going to be thrilled to have a sibling!” She shrieked. “That’s all for today, I’ll see you tomorrow, Martha.” With those words, I grabbed my bag and with the largest grin, I walked out, humming to myself while responding to every staff member who greeted me. The drive to the house was short or maybe I was too engrossed in my thoughts. Arriving at the house, Adam’s car in the drive way, I shrugged. It was unusual. Did Adam leave without his car? Is that why it’s in the driveway? Maybe he was here to pick up something or he finished up his business at the Moonstone pack early. Either way, I’d send him out of the house for the day and make sure my surprise was perfect. My wolf was giddy with excitement, she was purring and wagging her tail while trying to burst out and take a run around the pack like it was possible in one day. Nearing the door, I could scent April’s scent strongly. She was the maid and usually, her scent was quite faint as her work was majorly limited to the kitchen. A few steps away from the entrance and I could hear voices, no… grunts, moans and groans. Was April having an affair at the pack house? How could the guards let a stranger into the pack house? I frowned as I clenched my fists, how dare a maid do such a treacherous thing in the pack house. She was definitely going to be punished for this. With rage overriding my ability to decipher that Adam’s scent was equally in the air, I pushed the door open. “You love my p***y don’t you? I shook my head, sniffing the tears. “Lost? Adam, the first you were drugged in that hotel room, the second you were in heat and now you’re possessed? I’m tired of trying to fix the impossible, it’s over! I never want to see your face!” I spat out, holding onto the shreds of dignity I had left. I wanted to break down, scream and cry my heart out but not in front of him. “Ruby, please… Our son, our family. I’m willing to work on myself… We can go for therapy, this is just a phase, our bond, please… please Ruby.” He pleaded and I scoffed. “If I keep lying beside a mongrel, eventually I’ll start smelling like one. I'm not going to wait until I’ve got AIDs, Adam.” With all my strength, I yanked my hand away. I was a few steps away from my car when my phone began to ring endlessly, digging through the bag in rage, I couldn’t see the name clearly but I answered the call. Ready to snap at the caller. “Luna, there’s an emergency… Dave had an accident and he might not…” I never heard the rest. Something inside me tore through. My wolf, taking control as pain overwhelmed every other thought. Dave, my son. Before I could think, my body shifted, and I bolted toward the pack hospital.
