The Accident
The sound of birds whistling was felt in the air. From the look of things, it was close to 7:30am in the morning. Ariana slowly rolled from side to side of her bed as her alarm kept on blasting non-stop to her hearing. “oh come on can't a girl have some sleep? '' she whispers to herself but within her she knew if she didn't get up immediately she would be late for work. She lazily pulls herself off the bed and grabs her alarm clock to turn it off. After only having 2 hours of sleep, she felt her body needed more rest and just wanted to go back to bed, but a quick flash of the look on her boss’s face when she arrived late to work quickly got her off of bed and into the bathroom. In a couple of minutes, she was done bathing and was roughly digging through the closet to get herself a comfortable cloth to wear. After a few minutes of searching, she came up with a white trunk top, a pink blazer, and a denim bootcut Jean, staring at her reflection in her mirror. She felt comfortable in them and smiled at herself. She quickly rushed to get her boots and had just finished putting on the left boots when she realised that the right foot was nowhere to be found. She immediately got into a scavenger hunt for the right foot.
“no no….no.... you’ve got to be kidding me. This can't be happening now” she said to herself as she searched for it. Underneath her work table was her first place to search. Next, it was under her bed but she couldn't find it. She sat on the bed almost feeling defeated by the time, knowing that it was her only good pair of boots, she knew she just had to find them. Just when she was about to give up on the search, she remembered that, due to her rush the previous night, she probably might have packed it with her clothes into her laundry basket. She immediately went to search for her laundry basket and found it. Quickly, she puts it on and rushes back to pick up her phone from the side table. One last glimpse of herself in the mirror gets her satisfied enough to dash out of her door.
"I'm really done for it this time” she said to herself as she checked her wrist watch to discover the time was far gone. Swiftly she ran through the street walkway. She was so busy trying to avoid bumping into anyone that she did not notice a man in dark-shaded glasses keeping a close mark behind her. She knew the next crosswalk was quite a distance away and decided to try beating the traffic light since her office was just a street ahead. Besides, this was not the first time she would be crossing the road before the traffic light, she thought to herself. After looking at both sides of the road, she anxiously made a run for it. She was in so much hurry that she did not notice that a car was fast approaching her. When she saw it, she had already gotten past the middle of the road to the other end. She felt she could make it to the other end in time, but in a twinkle of an eye, a BMW 530i car at speed crashed into her, sending her up into the air. She felt she was in a dream before being slammed down to the ground by gravity and immediately went unconscious as she hit the asphalt road pavement.
On the other hand, Samantha had just gotten a call before leaving the house that her meeting with the new investors had been moved an hour earlier than planned and was so much in a hurry to get to the office to prepare before their arrival. She was so sure that she would get them to invest in her project. She was already running late when her phone started ringing and she had to get it knowing it was related to her meeting. She was just trying to get it from her bag when it fell to the floorboard of her car. In that instance, she had to bend over to get it. While trying to focus on driving and struggling to get her phone, she suddenly heard a deafening sound. She knew she had crashed into something, but since she was distracted, she did not know what it was. Her car was quickly brought to a stop as she came down to realize that she had just run over someone. On first look, she felt that the lady was dead because she looked lifeless on the road.
" Oh my god, what have I just done! ” she exclaimed, when she came down to find a girl looking lifeless in front of her in a pile of blood. She screamed ”could someone please call the ambulance…” as she spoke she went closer to check on the pulse of the girl she had knocked down. Luckily, she felt a pulse on her hand though faint, but it was something to hold on to. In that state of confusion, all she could think of was not having to go to jail for murder. Not knowing what to do next, she helplessly spoke to the unconscious girl, “ Please don’t die on me… I am way too young to go to jail… besides you seem like someone with lots of dreams, please stay alive.” She had seen people talking to persons that were unconscious in movies and hoped it would do a miracle for her. Repeatedly she kept saying this to her till the ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident.
While passersby gathered around the accident scene the man earlier following Ariana kept his distance and monitored from afar the event that had just taken place. He tried taking pictures of the incident but had to leave when the police arrived.
