My Alphas Promise

Chapter Two: Mate

Jacob's POV:

        Still up on stage I hear Maddy's voice 

        "I talked to my wolf!! What about you?!"

        "Yeah I just spoke with him, my head still kinda hurts though, I'll be down there in a few with drinks for us, it is our birthday after all"

        I hopped off stage, my head pounding 

    "Orion, What's going on up there man?  I feel like you are using my head as a bowling ally or something"

"Jacob, I would never harm you intentionally but it may be lingering effects from my awakening and for that I am very sorry"

        I sighed. Maybe after a few drinks my head will calm down, has to be a combination of nerves and Orion. I tried to play it cool but I really was nervous about this whole evening. I never used to be nervous about fulfilling my role as alpha but now that its real I'm anxious as hell. I cant let my father down or my pack. Everything will fall to me after I shift. I tried to push it to the back of my mind, tonight is over and done with. Now its time to celebrate my 18th birthday with Maddy. This might be our last stress free night together as "children".

        As I started making my way through the crowd, I noticed one of the visiting alphas standing very close to my sister, Alpha Elijah, I wondered what they could be talking about so intently. He had always seemed like a well educated reasonable man from what I've seen in past meetings. I tried getting the scoop from Maddy, seeing if I needed to intervene or not but she seemed to not be listening. 

             "Maddy what's going on?"

              "Mads?" 

              "Is everything okay?"  

        I really didn't want to get into a scuffle with one of our most trusted packs but if he was trying to intimidate my sister id put him in his place and fast.

        I walked up, drinks still in hand, looking at Alpha Elijah but speaking to my sister "Hey Madeline, here's your drink. Is everything alright over here?"

Maddy's POV:

        I could barely hear my brother inside my head with Bodhi going as crazy as she was. I was still in shock that we had found our mate so fast, but looking in his eyes seemed to be calming. I don't even know who this man is but I know I can trust him with my life. I didn't even notice Jacob walked up with the drinks until he spoke and the man turned away. 

        "Yes Alpha Jacob, everything is perfect. It seems to me I have just found my Luna"

        I let out a gasp. Luna?? Then it clicked. Oh my god, This man was a visiting Alpha. my mate was an Alpha. I turned to look at Charlie and she was just in as much shock as I was.

        Jacob quickly looked at me and then back at my mate. I was still waiting on a name for this man in front of me.

        "My sister is your mate? Wow. Well this really is an exciting night then" he said trying to stifle a laugh as he looked at mine and Charlies expression. "I'll be right back Alpha Elijah. I think my parents need to be informed of what's happened" 

        Elijah. Alpha Elijah Driscol of the Eastern pack was my mate. 

        As Jacob turned to leave Elijah turned his attention back to me

        "So you are the mystery sibling? Madeline. Its nice to put a name to such a beautiful face"

        I couldn't find my voice. this was all too much to process. my heart was pounding 

        "Well, needless to say I may have to extend my stay here past this week if that's alright with you my dear, the moon goddess seems to have changed my plans" 

        He then flashed the most perfect dimply smile. I felt my heart flutter and my breathing hitch.

My parents finally made their way to us, Jacob slow behind still finding amusement from my situation, I tuned everyone out, really just introducing themselves and laughing at how quick this all had happened, my parents seemed to approve instantly, and really take in the sight of my mate.

        He was a good foot taller than me, like me he had darker skin but even darker hair, he seemed well built, his muscles were still very defined through his suit. Suddenly another male came up to the group. He was also tall and well built but with sandy hair and more of a goofy sideways grin.

        "Alpha, Everything all right?"

        "Tyler, I'd like to introduce Madeline" He said gesturing towards me

        "Evening Madeline, it's nice--"

        "Your new Luna"

        This seemed to shock Tyler. he stopped mid sentence and looked at Elijah for good minute, maybe checking to see if it was a joke, before turning back to me and straightening up his posture. He then took a bow and spoke

        "Evening Luna, We have been waiting for you for a long while now"

        I found my voice and managed to stutter out a greeting before trying to focus on what my parents were saying

        "Well Maddy will be missed here at the hospital but I'm sure she could find something to do there in the Eastern pack, being a Luna though she might not have the time" my mother seemed to be sharing my hospital experience but what did she mean by "I'll be missed"

        "I'm sorry mother I seemed to have missed some of this conversation, what are we discussing?"

        "When you will be leaving sweetie, you're a Luna now with your own pack, You cant expect to stay here when you are apart of a different pack now"

        Leaving??? I didn't want to leave. I barely know this man and yes I do have responsibilities here and what about Jacob and Charlie?? I can't, No, I won't, leave them.

        "Mom, don't you think I should have a say on whether or not I want to leave? I have an obligation to the hospital. Also, my whole life is here, you guys. Charlie, my whole pack family"

        Elijah seemed to be listening intently but him and Tyler both had the same glazed over expression. def mind linking and discussing this matter amongst themselves.

        I wish he would say something though, no one seems to be understanding of this situation from my side. Charlie who had be silent until now finally seemed to remember how to use her words ad piped in, this will be good I thought, Charlie will explain to them how much I'm needed here and how I can't just up and leave because of some random Alpha, no matter how hunky he looked in a suit.

        "Maddy, He's your mate. You cant be separated from him. Plus we can always visit you ya know? I'm sure you wont be too far away, besides, being a Luna you can demand to see us anytime you want."

What a traitor.

Elijah's POV:

        Alpha Mason and Luna Evelyn came over to us with beaming smiles. I calmly explained the situation to them and that I would like to extend my stay so we can make the proper adjustments back home in time before I bring my Luna home. 

        Luna Evelyn agreed and started telling me all about Madeline's work in the hospital. Beauty and brains, I cant believe how lucky I am to have a Luna with some actual education. She's nothing like all these ditzy she wolves hanging around. I looked back at her with such pride, the pack will be honored to have such a bright compassionate Luna.

        "Congrats boss, seems like you have an almost doc for a Luna, Plus she's not bad looking either"

        "Tyler, I recommend you keep your opinions on my mates looks to yourself" 

         I added a  low growl so only he could hear me and know how dead ass serious I was. She was mine. mine to look at and mine to adore. 

        "Whoa man, I have a mate I was just saying, I'm happy for you. The pack is going to be thrilled you are finally bringing home their Luna"

        "Speaking of the pack, I need you to contact back home and have them set up a few things to make her arrival easier, once I learn more about her I will send word and they will make the accommodations. I want her to feel at home there."

        "On it boss"

        I came back into the conversation as the tall blonde friend who I may have heard her name be Charlie? telling Madeline how they wouldn't be too far away and could see each other whenever my mate wanted.

        "This is true my dear, whenever you are feeling the least bit home sick I will make sure our schedules are rearranged immediately so you can come home to see your family. I would never want you to feel like you didn't have the option of leaving whenever you wanted"

        This caused her to just scowl at her friend which made me laugh, she was utterly adorable and not intimidating in the least bit.

        "Well I also have a responsibility to the pack hospital Alpha Elijah, It wouldn't feel right to just leave Dr Andrews"

        "Just Elijah, please. You are my Luna, you don't need to use a title when you speak to me, We are equals my dear. As for your duties we have a week or so to help this Dr Andrews adjust and prepare you to be on your own, To be honest our hospital at home could use some more help"

        This seemed to calm her down a little, I don't want her to stress over any of the details of her move. I just want her with me.

        "Please excuse us Alpha, Luna, but I'd like to have some time with my mate alone if that would be alright. We need time to get to know one another by the weeks end" I said flashing my most charming smile.

         I heard Madline's heart speed up a little which brought me great pleasure. If this is what my smile does to her I wonder what my hands could do.

        "Of course Alpha Elijah, you two have fun tonight, we are going to go tell the rest of the pack the good news" they then hugged Madeline and took Charlie and Jacob away with them. Now it was just me and my mate. 

        I took her hand in mine and led her to a table, letting her choose where to sit and making sure she wasn't uncomfortable. She chose the seat closest to me and even wiggled it closer so our knees were touching. The contact of her touch sent sparks throughout my body, I have never had this with anyone and it was the most amazing warm feeling that this beautiful creature was causing.

        "Id love to get to know each other more before we head to the eastern pack, also I'm making arrangements for our room so if you have anything you would like in your new home all you have to do is simply ask"

        "Anything?" she asked kinda hesitant

        "Yes Madeline, Anything you want in this world I will gladly give to you"

        "Okay well first please call me Maddy, Madeline is just too frumpy, and the only thing I request is no yellow scrubs please. I don't know what your pack colors at the hospital are but I will die if I have to wear yellow ever again"

        This caused confusion then laughter to me. That's it? all she wants in the world is to not wear a certain color of clothing and she equivalates it with death. She's going to keep me on my toes for sure.

        "You can wear any color you would like Maddy, Are you sure you want to continue your studies at the hospital though? No one will be expecting you to take on such duties as their Luna"

        "Id like to very much if that's alright, I feel like myself in a hospital setting. I still have lots to learn though but don't worry I won't let anything get in the way of my new duties as a Luna, I will have to ask my mom a few things before we leave this week also."

        I made a mental note to ask Tyler to prepare the pack hospital doctors for some new hands and also a study for her to be away so she can have her very own space to study her materials, I feel like she would like that.

        "As you wish Maddy. Whatever you want"

        We continued some small talk for a while, I learned all about her close relationship with her brother and her studies at the hospital. She then asked about my family which I told her about Sophie and my parents but conveniently left out my brother. I felt like it wasn't dinner party conversation. 

        She smiled contentedly and reached for my hand before saying thank you and saying she needed to go talk to Charlie about everything.

        "Of course, I have some things I need to attend to as well anyways."

        I kissed her hand and walked off, wishing I kissed her lips instead but I don't want to rush things. She's my mate and I'm going to do this right. We aren't some hormonal teenagers who cant wait to rip each others clothes off. Well she's a teenager still but I could tell right away she wasn't like the rest of these she wolves, she was more level headed and empathetic towards others. Not mention absolutely brilliant but I felt like she doesn't believe in herself, looking over at her talking with her friend, looking a tad overwhelmed but still beautiful as the string lights glowed against her skin, I wondered what ever had happened to make her lose her confidence.  I was interrupted as Tyler came over, panic in his tone.

        "Boss, We have a problem"
