Leo closed his eyes, but that didn’t block out the stridency of voices surrounding him in his own damned living room. If only the room were as empty as his shredded heart. He rubbed the back of his neck, but nothing short of being manhandled by a merciless masseuse would ease the tension in those bunched muscles.
Or Oscar’s sweet voice saying, “Ree pee? Ree pee?” while clutching his favorite storybook in his sticky little hands. That would have brought instant relief.
