Amerie and Axel are high school rivals who don't see eye to eye. For Amerie, Axel is a cocky Alpha prince who doesn't deserve what he has and to Axel, Amerie is a human student who should be beneath him and not winning over him in exams and school elections. When an accidental marking bonds the two of them, they must cast their differences aside and form an alliance that'd secure Axel’s claim to the throne and keep Amerie safer in a world run by werewolves. Their alliance would soon blur the lines between what's real and what's not as they deal with school politics, pack politics, enemy factions who'd do anything to stop Axel from becoming king, and hide the truth about a secret bloodline that can't stay hidden forever.

1: The Rivals
Axel The girl knelt between my legs, head bobbing up and down with so much vigor. Her mouth felt like it was made to suck d**k for a living. It was pure nirvana or rather, it should be pure nirvana but my mind wasn't even in what she was doing at all. Physically, I was in the secluded corner of the house where we were currently celebrating the hockey club’s win but my mind was far removed from the screaming party-iers and the loud music. I wasn't here at all. Instead, I was in countless council meetings over the last couple of months. The council meetings where it has been drummed into my ears over and over again what was at stake if I didn't find my mate within the next three full moons. What was at stake was that I'd lose the right to the throne and it'd naturally go to the other royal family. I was eighteen now, well into the age of coronation but a prince couldn't become a king without his mate, especially since the throne had been left empty for almost a decade now. But I still haven't found my fated mate and because of how dire the need for a new alpha king was, the council decided I should mark a chosen mate. But my wolf, ever volatile and erratic since the death of my parents, has refused to mark any of the numerous chosen mates handpicked for me. I was this close to losing the one thing my parents died to protect and my wolf still refused to cooperate. My uncle, the same man who stepped in after my parents and made sure the other family didn't claim the throne was already too and during our last meeting, he suggested something completely bizarre and something that might even make me lose my head altogether. ‘It's black magic, Axel. I know a powerful sorceress who can fake a mate bond between you and any shewolf of our choosing. She'll manipulate your wolf into marking her, too. That's the only way for you to stay in the race as the alpha prince. You can't lose what my brother fought so hard for over some stupid pack laws, Axel. And no one needs to know about the black magic. It'll be our little secret.’ I had dismissed it then but now, I was starting to consider. I wanted a mate. I wanted the beauty and sacredness of the bond I witnessed between my parents before they passed. But that wasn't as important as securing their throne. I needed to do that. “Hmm,” the girl between my legs moaned in satisfaction and the sound jolted me back to the present. She released my d**k with a pop. She looked up at me, eyes wide and seductive and she maintained eye contact with me as she gave my d**k a long lick. I should feel an excitement or s****l jolt but I never feel anything. This was just nothing but a physical activity. “I've been blowing you for the past 30 minutes and it doesn't look like you're going to c*m. Do you want to come with me to a private room?” she batted her eyelids at me as she twirled a loose strand of her hair with her finger, “I can show you a trick or two that will make you c*m in seconds.” I didn't take her up on her offer because I knew nothing would come out of it. So instead, I pushed her off me gently. “No, it's fine. You can go.” “But I… I promise to make you feel good.” But I was already walking away. I tucked my limp d**k away and climbed down the stairs to where the party was happening fully. The music was too loud and nearly deafened my ears. There were so many students around, jumping, dancing, making out, screaming, and just partying. The DJ changed the beat when he saw me and one of my teammates, Matthias, who was also my beta and best friend, was quick to grab the microphone when he saw me. “And guys, welcome the man of the moment. Our star player. The reason why this party is being held. The man who has repeatedly made the falconers fly. The captain of the club and our future Alpha King, Axel Wolfe!!!” The crowd burst into so many screams and shouts that they drowned out the music. I basked in them all, my teammates that came over to hug and fist bump me, the girls who threw themselves at me in the name of hugs… It was all wholesome and it made me forget for a while, the turmoil going on in my mind. I forgot even more when I smelt the putrid smell of inferiority when the cheers died down. I knew the smell belonged to a human and I knew exactly what human it was even before I saw her. Amerie f*****g Hart. One of the few humans attending Crestwood Academy and actually the only one who doesn't know her place. The smell of her was almost irritating and my wolf snarled in anger as I made my way towards where she was arguing with two of my hockey boys with the smell of weed hanging all over them. “Come up, student president,” Adam growled in anger, “this isn't the school’s premises. School rules do not extend to places outside of the school.” Yeah, she was also the first human and female president, and also the f*****g pain in my ass. She won over me. “Well, you're still a student of Crestwood Academy and what the rule says is that all Crestwood students are banned from smoking weed. So you might want to put that out before you end up with a disciplinary ticket.” “You have to be kidding me,” the other player, Vini growled as he stepped closer to her, a stick in between his lips. He took a deep drag before blowing the smoke at her. “You think because the school lost its mind and made you the student president, you can talk to us anyhow? You're nothing but a mere human. A lowly creature. One that isn't even worth the ant beneath my shoe. We might all cower in school because of the power you hold but this is…” he looked around and missed me. I noticed that he only saw that the place was deserted and they could hurt her without an audience. “... This place is different. We can hurt you,” he moved closer to her and Amerie maintained her ground, “touch you. Force you to your knees. Make you service us like your ancestors used to do. You might be the student president but our status can make crimes like that go away.” “And that is it. A threat to hurt me. I'm sure you'll get more than detention this time around.” “You f*****g b***h…” he raises his hand as if to slap but he never got to bring it down because I caught a hold of it and twisted it till he fractured a bone. He cowered in fear when he saw that I was the one. “Captain, we were just trying to scare her and…” “Get lost.” They scurried away instantly. Amerie didn't look shocked at my arrival. She didn't even look at me at all. She busied herself with writing in the silly ticket book she always carried around. She handed it over to me when she was done writing. “Those are three charges. Unruly parties with questionable fun activities. Hockey boys smoking weed and then, the threat to harm me. I think you're the best person to give the ticket to as their captain. So I guess you should get your buys ready for another disciplinary committee.” I chuckled and crushed the small rectangular paper without reading the content. She looked back at me, unfazed. It has always annoyed me: the defiance in her eyes. All werewolves, even the ones on the council looked at me with some sort of reference and fear but Amerie didn't look at me like that. She doesn't only look at me without fear. She looks at me as if I were beneath her. And that infuriated me more than anything. That was exactly how she was looking at me right now. “Don't you ever get tired of being a prude? I know you're unused to the concept of power and that's why you're acting over the top with the little power you have. But you're human, Amerie and the people you're going up against can crush you with just their hands.” “Just the little power and it's something that you tried repeatedly to sabotage me from winning?” she bit back, her tone even more defiant than her eyes, “just admit it, you're the one obsessed with power and it doesn't seem to be going so well with you seeing how you're about to lose the alpha throne too.” She smiled smugly while my wolf pranced within me and my hands tightened into fists. I stalked closer to him. “Watch your mouth, Hart.” “Or what?” she didn't back you, “you're going to show me how much of an animal you werewolves really are?” My hand inched with the need to wrap around her throat, to show her exactly how much of a beast we really are but she wasn't worth it. None of them really were. So instead of giving in to the primitive urge of what I really wanted to do to her, I sidestepped her and walked away. I walked back into the back, anger still coursing through my veins. I didn't think when I grabbed a cup of alcohol from a server nearby. I only chugged it down in one goal. The liquid had barely left my mouth when I tasted the smell of what had been mixed with it. Moonrot. It was an instant poison that made us lose control of our wolves. It was especially more potent for mateless wolves because the power of the mate bond can control the poison but for mateless wolves, it was a poison where our wolves would run rogue within us and eventually kill us within minutes. It was powerful and dark and forbidden. I'd have never fallen for it if I weren't so distracted. Even 2 year old pups already knew the smell of Moonrot. How could I have been so careless, so lost in my anger towards Amerie that I failed to recognize Moonrot? Fuck. There weren't even supposed to be any servers at this party. I nearly doubled up as the pain spread through my entire body. It was so intense and my wolf tried to fight it but Torin was no match for it. My teeth clattered as my fangs and claws extracted out of their volition. The few students around turned to look at me as the world around tilted and moved slowly. “Hey,” It was Matthias who was suddenly in front of me, looking all worried and afraid, “what's wrong with you man?” “Moonrot,” I managed to grunt as my body twisted and bent into uneven shapes. My head hurt too much. I wanted to yank it off my neck and my fangs were baring from the need to bury themselves into the neck of a shewolf who can save us. Mattias paled so fast I've never seen him look so alarmed. He didn't say a word. He grabbed my body and only let me go when we entered a room. He didn't ask me why I was stupid enough to get poisoned. He launched into savior mode instantly. “I'm going to gather all the girls at the party and have you try to mark them while I place a call to Circe. We'll get a solution, I promise. Just wait here.” I wanted to remind him that I've tried marking nearly all the shewolves in the country but my wolf never accepted them. But I couldn't say a word. I was in so much pain. My body kept twisting as if I was trying to shift but I wasn't shifting. I was in pain and I just needed to mark somebody. Anybody. Footsteps echoed towards the door and I thought it was Mattias returning but when the door opened, it wasn't him at the door. It was Amerie f*****g Hart.
