Emma I paced around my small bedroom, my eyes constantly darting to Jade's still form on the bed. The herbs I'd given her earlier had bought us some time, but I could see the dark veins creeping up her neck again. We were running out of options. A soft knock at the door made me jump. "Come in," I called, my voice hoarse from lack of sleep. Elara slipped into the room, her arms full of dusty tomes. "Any change?" she asked, nodding towards Jade. I shook my head, sinking into a nearby chair. "The herbs are barely keeping it at bay now. We need something stronger, Elara." She set the books down with a thud.
