36 AARON When Jackson Pettit had offered me the chance to buy the derelict shell that had been Deals on Wheels, this was the life I’d dreamed of. A spacious home built just the way I wanted it, good friends close by, a comfortable job I enjoyed, and Romi sitting on my breakfast bar in a dusky-pink silk robe, swinging her bare feet as she ate grilled un-cheese for breakfast. She loved me. She f*****g loved me. It was official: I was the luckiest man on earth. “Food okay?” A nod. “Want anything else?” Another nod. “Care to elaborate?” She beckoned me toward her with one crooked finger. “Mmm-hmm.” What do you know? It turned out that Clarissa cheating was the second-best thing ever to happen to me. Because now the stars had aligned and the gods had smiled down and I had my girl.
