Chapter6

Carl lay on his bed, idly playing with his phone, but his mind was far from it. He couldn't stop thinking about that woman. Her words echoed in his head: “I just found your gaze disgusting. It made me sick.” How could she say he was disgusting? No one had ever said that to him before. He wasn't sure why, but her words had left such a deep impression on him, and he couldn't help but think of her over and over again. He had seen her enter Vivi's room earlier, so they must be together. The thought made him smile unconsciously, though he didn't notice. Speaking of Vivi, something else came to mind. Carl suddenly sat up, tapped a few buttons in his phone's contact list, and made a call. “Hey, Barnett, any news? Have you found your fiancée yet?” he asked. “Nope, still nothing. What's up? Bored and thinking of me now?” Barnett's voice came through with a hint of teasing. “Haha, don't say it like that! I'd think of you even when I'm having fun. But you really missed out by not coming with me. You could've met two beautiful women.” “Yeah, right.” “By the way, your fiancée... Is her last name Smith?” “Yeah. Vivi Smith. Why are you asking?” “Oh, nothing. Just curious.” Carl hung up, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. It seemed like there was going to be some drama soon, and the best part was that it would be even more entertaining if he stayed out of it. He couldn't wait to see the look of shock on Vivi's face. Meanwhile, Nerys's fingers flew across the keyboard, a piece of toast hanging from her mouth. “Weren't you supposed to be going back home today?” she mumbled, her words barely understandable, though still managing to sound cold, with not a hint of cuteness. Honestly, I couldn't imagine Nerys acting cute. It would probably be terrifying, scarier than a Japanese horror movie. I never understood how Nerys could wake up so early. Just as my sleep was beginning to fade, she would start talking to me. Clutching my pillow, I refused to respond, because I was still so tired. “Vivi! If you keep sleeping in, you're going to get fat!” Nerys was clearly frustrated with my half-hearted attitude, frowning with her delicate brows fixed on me. Covering my eyes with my hand, I groaned, “Please, just look at the time, would you?” I turned over in exasperation. “It's 8 a.m.,” she replied matter-of-factly. Without bothering to fix my messy hair, I sat up, clasped my hands together, and pleaded with her in all seriousness, “Please, Lady Nong. Just let me sleep a little longer.” And with that, I collapsed back down. Thump thump thump. There it was again—someone was persistently knocking at the door, disturbing my precious sleep. Nerys had given up on me before, but now she was determined to drag me out of bed. Unable to win against her, she tossed a dismissive “Your image is your problem” at me before heading to the door. Grudgingly, I threw on a long shirt, tied my hair into a messy bun, and shuffled toward the door. “Vivi, do you know this...” Nerys started to say “shameless man” but changed her tone at the last second, “this Mr. Carl?” “Carl!” I grabbed the nearest pillow and hurled it toward the door. “I thought it was some i***t banging on the door while I was trying to sleep!” Carl casually caught the pillow and closed the door behind him. Nerys approached me, a suspicious look in her eyes. “He's not the ‘handsome guy' who drove you back, is he?” It was clear from her expression that she was full of doubt. Their strange expressions made it seem like they had met before.
