"How do you know?" Stephen, who was originally seated on the sofa, suddenly stood up, his gaze piercing as he scrutinized her. Every nuance of her expression seemed to be under his watchful eye.
Isabella blinked innocently, feigning ignorance as she looked at him. "I saw it on a news website. They said the person's face was unrecognizable, lying beside her grandfather's body who jumped off the building. It was terrifying."
"Which website? When was it posted?" Stephen's entire demeanor darkened, his face displaying a storm about to unleash. He had informed mainstream media the day the incident occurred. Discovering which obscure website dared to leak this information for sensationalism could implicate Baker Group if things escalated.
Larry's expression mirrored Stephen's displeasure. This woman caused complications when alive, and now, even in death, she continued to be a problem.
"My apologies. I shouldn't have brought up Stephen's distressing matters." Isabella wore an innocent expression. She understood a crucial truth: however adept crisis management might be, there would always be a loophole. Especially when two deaths occurred simultaneously in such a sensational manner, other media outlets would try to capitalize on it.
She seemed to be genuinely frightened by Stephen's reaction and unconsciously moved closer to Rebecca.
Rebecca's expression darkened instantly. She had been indulged her entire life, a doted-upon only child. Coming here to greet them, she didn't expect this intimidating atmosphere from the grandfather and grandson, especially when she was still recovering.
With emotions tangled, the once-polite smile on her face faded away.
At that moment, the door creaked open again.
"Knock, knock!"
"Come in!" Stephen coldly addressed the entrance.
"Stephen." A seductive beauty pushed open the door and started saying his name. However, upon observing the awkward scene inside, she froze in place.
With captivating fox-like eyes fixed directly on Stephen, she seemed to have endless words to share with him privately.
"How the hell did you end up here?" Stephen arched an eyebrow slightly.
"The company's dealing with some urgent s**t, Justin sent me to track you down," the attractive woman replied, glancing down as if she had some hidden agenda. Nonetheless, she maintained a facade of businesslike composure.
Being Stephen's secretary, she knew damn well what would catch his eye.
Now that Sarah was gone, she was the woman closest to Stephen. It was just a matter of time before she became a permanent fixture!
Isabella scrutinized the newcomer, her eyes betraying a chillier demeanor. Lydia had sneaked into the company through the back door, boasting a seductive appearance and a heart as cold as ice.
Isabella used surprise to her advantage, looking at her with feigned shock. "Stephen, I think I spotted that 'ugly duckling' in the news about your girlfriend's tragic accident."
Lydia looked up, genuinely shocked.
Who was this girl?
Did she just call her an 'ugly duckling'? How was that any different from a direct insult to her alluring but controversial nature?
However, Stephen and Larry were fixated on the news Isabella had brought.
"What the hell's happening?" Stephen's expression darkened abruptly, his icy gaze fixed on Lydia, showing no sign of doubting Isabella's words. Because on that fateful day, he did instruct Lydia to inform all mainstream media about the incident.
But now, not only was the news leaked, but Lydia had also been captured on camera at the scene?
A flicker of disgust passed through Stephen's eyes.
Too much trouble and not enough success!
