"We revisit those places where we experienced love, as pilgrims return to holy places, to be reminded, restored, and reaffirmed by them." -Phyllis Grissim Theroux- -SAVANNAH ZEN POV- "Good morning best!" Someone called out to me in a familiar voice. So I gradually opened my eyes. And I found my best friend to be overjoyed. She smiled as she took a picture of me with her cellphone. "Best, why are you here?" I asked her in surprise as I stood up and looked for Luke. "Luke called me yesterday and asked if I could join you two on your vacation. Why best? Aren't you happy that I'm here?" Rose asked me sadly, and she sat down on the sofa. "Of course! I am happy. I was just surprised, so please forgive me. Have you eaten breakfast?" I asked and hugged her. "I haven't eaten breakfast yet. Let's go! Luke was already in the dining area, waiting for us." Rose reminded me. So I was embarrassed because they were just waiting for me. "Okay! I miss you best!" I told her and pinched her red cheeks. "I miss you too, best!" she replied and smiled at me. "Best, You can go! I'll just follow. I will take a bath first." I told her as I stood up and picked up the towel. "Okay best! We will be waiting for you." Rose replied and left the room. So I hurried to take a shower so that we could eat. It is so embarrassing for Luke and Rose, who are just patiently waiting for me. A few minutes later, I was about to leave my room when I noticed Rose hugging Luke, but Luke pushed her away. Because I was hiding in the corner, they didn't recognize me, so when Luke stood up, I approached them. I don't want to make Rose look bad. So I pretended that I couldn't see anything. "Hey! Luke and Rose, sorry if I kept you waiting so long." I apologized to them and smiled. "It's fine, best, I enjoyed what Luke and I talked about." Rose lied to me, but Luke did not say a word. He was busy preparing our food. "Wow! Congrats best! Because you and Luke have already made up your own story. Didn't you once despise Luke for me?" I was joking with her. I just wanted to remind her of how I used to fight Luke with her before. They didn’t vote for Luke back then because Luke was just poor. But why now, she was like leeches if she could hold Luke. "Can we, at the very least, forget the past, Best? Let us just concentrate on the present because we won't get anywhere if we continue to dwell on the past. Don't we all have a shady past?" Rose answered seriously. So I just agreed with her. It’s hard to annoy her, and she might cry. "Guys, Aren't you feeling hungry yet? And how about me? I'm starving." Luke said with no emotion. "Sorry!" I replied while going to the table. We didn't say anything while we ate. We simply remained silent. In this compassionate dining room, only plates and spoons can be heard. After we ate, we left the Hotel. I was about to get in the front seat of Luke's car, but Rose preceded me. "Best, I'll sit here! Huh? You know, I get dizzy when I sit in the back." Rose told me as she sat in the front seat. As far as I know, she won't be dizzy no matter where she sits. But I just let her because she might not want to sit in the back. When we were in the middle, close to our place. I could no longer restrain myself, so I told Luke to stop the car. "Luke, please stop the car," I said lazily to Luke. When Luke came to a complete stop, I ran to the side of the road and threw up. My body is weakening, but thankfully Luke is there to support me. When we got back in the car, Rose didn’t care about me. So I couldn’t help but sulk at her. "Rose, please take a seat in the back first because Sav is vomiting." Luke gave Rose instructions without showing any emotion. "But, Luke!" Rose reasoned out. "No, But! That's an order! If you don't want me to leave you here in the middle of the road." Luke yelled angrily at her. Luke's patience with Rose had run out. "Okay! You said so!" Then she rolled her eyes. She frowned and didn't look at me. I fell asleep on the trip. When I woke up, I just saw that I was in my room. I miss my room. Looking at the time, it was 8 in the evening. So I quickly got up and left the room. And I caught Dad and Luke playing chess in the living room. "Iha! Come on! Luke and you both ate. He was truly waiting for you to wake up." Dad said to me while smiling. Just now, I saw Dad’s sweet smile. "Where is Mom, Dad?" I asked Dad while kissing him. "She went to bed first because she was exhausted from her store," Dad replied. We have a small store where Mom and Dad get their daily necessities. "Luke, Come here! Let's eat!" I called Luke, but I wonder why he is still here at our house. When there were only two of us at the table, I asked him. "Why are you still here, Luke? Where are you going to sleep tonight?" I asked Luke curiously. "In your room, we always sleep together, don't we?" Luke said and laughed. "Shut up! Watch your mouth! Dad might hear you! You are so noisy!" I said and glared at him. "Yes, Madam! I will zip my mouth." He replied and laughed. In comparison to Luke's house, ours is small. Luke's room was our whole house. There are only two bedrooms in the house. It would be shameful if I put Luke to sleep in the living room. So I just scolded him. It would be shameful if I put Luke to sleep in the living room. So I just scolded him. After we ate, I put away what we were eating. So I could wash the dishes. However, Luke assist me in cleaning the dishes. I remember when I didn't have enough money, and we were washing dishes at the restaurant. So I burst out laughing. "Sav? Are you okay?" Luke asked me in disbelief. Maybe, he was wondering why I was laughing alone. "Yeah, I'm okay. Thank you!" Then I smiled at him. "Thank you for what?" He asked as if his eyes were speaking. I saw on his face that he was confused. "Thank you for the opportunity to be with you; we can't give back what we had before, but as a friend, I can show you how sad and ungrateful I am for causing you pain." Then my tears flowed. "Hey! Don't be sad, Sav! I can't forgive you right now, but I can thank you for changing my life when you left. I am happy with my life right now, and I hope you are as well." Then, Luke hugged me very tightly. I feel safe again in his arms. "I'm glad you're happy, even though I'm no longer the reason for your happiness." Then, I smiled at him as my tears flowed. After we washed the plate, I took him to my room. "Luke, I'm sorry if my room isn't as big as yours," I told him frankly. "It's alright! I'm used to living in small houses." He replied and lay down on my bed. "Luke, get out of my bed. You lie on the floor, where there is an extra bed." I drove him away. But he just smiled and pulled me. So I was on top of him. I couldn’t move, and my eyes widened in shock as he just smiled. "Oh my God! Let go of me!" I shouted at him when I realized I was on top of him. But he didn't let go of me; instead, he hugged me. A hug as if there's no tomorrow. A few minutes later, I asked him. "Is it over? Can I now stand?" I asked him innocently. "Hahaha! You are so innocent, Sav!" He said and kissed my forehead. "You are free now!" He said as he released me. But why does what he said seem to reverberate in my head? Why does it seem to find its way into my heart? Did that mean he already set me free for good? But if this is what I want, why should I be worried? "Thank you!" Then, I smiled bitterly. I threw a pillow at him and hit his handsome face because I was angry with him for no reason. "Ouch! It hurts! Savannah! Make sure I don't catch you because I'm going to kiss you." He shouted, and he chased me. It was as if we were going back to our childhood. We made a lot of noise in my room. And because he caught me, we slept in my bed together. Because my bed is small, I am not comfortable sleeping with someone in it. "Can I hug you?" He asked permission. "Not allowed," I replied briefly. "You can't do anything because I'm going to fall here in bed." He said and hugged me. "Stubborn!" I said and glared at him. "It's okay! I know you want me to hug you all the time," He said and laughed. "Shut up! Would you like me to punch you in the face?" I told him with a fierce look. "I'm sorry, but this is how I always want us to be," Luke replied as he tightened his hug on me. As we slept, he wrapped his arms around my back. That was our position until we both fell asleep. I haven't responded yet. I don't want to put my faith in a fleeting moment because I don't want to hurt either of us. It's only recently that I've realized how good it feels to let go of someone you love. You let someone go, not because you no longer love that someone, but because it makes that someone happy.
